If Microsoft wants to charge a fee to play on Xbox Live, well, we've all shown we're willing to do it.
I agree with whomever said MS is just trying to wring more money out of gamers by charging to play PC games.
I was pretty annoyed when I paid good cash money for updates to GRAW and CoD 3. Once upon a time, Xbox updates came FREE (e.g. every other Ghost Recon title, Halo 2, etc.)
Then along came PGR 2 and some other games where apparently the $50-$60 purchase price wasn't enough to include a few measley updates. PGR 2 Paris booster pack? I paid real money to race a bunch of oval-shaped tracks in a BMW 5 series?
Gamers are like sheep sometimes. "Microsoft is charging money for it? It must be good! Better dig out my wallet!"
Personally, I think DLC is a double-edged sword. It's nice to have easy access to expansion packs (Shivering Isles for Oblivion), or even pay extra for some map packs. But what makes me concerned is that it may give companies incentive to put out games that aren't finished. I love Lumines Live, but I would've rathered pay 20-25 bucks and gotten a full game than to have to buy a game in pieces. Good to see they've learned from their mistakes, though, as Castlevania SOTN will not be released this way. I fear if nobody complained about the way Lumines was approached, we'd be paying a couple bucks for one level every few months.
The paying to play over PC is just flat-out BS. It's never happened before, and there will be a big rebellion. I love the Xbox Live service and am perfectly pleased to pay $50 a year for it, but if you told me that I had to pay for online PC gaming I'd be furious. It's like sitting down at a coffee shop and having to pay for a sugar packet.
[QUOTE="XL70"]You still need a Gold membership to play on "Games for Windows Live".njdss4Yuck. There goes Micro$oft trying to rip all of us off again. Just play on private servers then. rip us off, they are the one company in gameing that is really thinking about the gamer. and how to improve their experience. im glad you have to have a paid gold account. because it will improve live overall, a free sever will never out preform a well financed server. period.
ACESandEIGHTS, What do you mean you paid good money for "updats" to GRAW and CoD3?kodaiOk, ok, so I said "updates" instead of "downloadable content." Silly me for not using the correct jargon.

Weak games can be fixed by downloadable content, but if it adds 30% or more to the price of the game, well, it pisses people off.The paying to play over PC is just flat-out BS. As far as paying for online play over Windows, yeah I can see people getting hot over that. But it's all we've ever known on XBL, so everyone's down with it. Before you know it, there will be marketing agreements with EA and Ubisoft and whomever else and all the game packages will have "Requires Microsoft Live Subscription to play online."
Either that, or it will be so unpopular that you'll never hear about it again. If, like someone said, your XBL subscription allows you to play PC games on Live, then there's nothing to worry about. :)
