ive just got an xbox360 elite and a new dell sp2309w monitor to play it on..i also bought a non-MS vga cable to hook the two up..my problem is the pic on the display has a bit of shadow behind it..is that 'ghosting'? im not sure.. the natural display of the monitor is 2048 x 1152 but i can only setup the xbox res to 1980 x 1080.. is that the problem? how should i setup the xbox and the monitor so that i could get a decent picture out of it? is it the cable coz i read up a few reviews of it on amazon and it got quite decent response from other users heres the monitor specs http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/dell-sp2309w/4507-3174_7-33456038.html and i wondering how can i adjust the volume of the game if i hook up my headphones straight to the xbox via a female-to-female adapter? i cant seem to find an option in the dashboard appreciate any response

The only thing you can do is try different resolutions and hope you find one you're happy with. If the picture is crap on all of them I suggest you buy a real HDTV and hook your 360 up to it with a HDMI cable. Great picture, problem solved. Regarding the game volume, the only way to increase it is through the in-game menu options. Most games are already set to max, though.

You need to buy the MS VGA Cables. Too many people have problems buying 3rd party ones. they almost never work properly and are poorly designed. You spent the money on the Elite. Get the proper Cables.

Computer Monitors are much higher Quality than any HDTV. I also havea Dell Monitor 24" and a 52" Sharp Aquos 92 Series, My Monitor with VGA Cables produce a much better picture. But it is true the Sheer Size of the HDTV makes me Smile more.....lol

My brother used to use his 360 with his PC monitor, hooked up with the VGA cable. The picture was terrible. He used the official MS VGA. Do you get a better picture with your 360 using VGA on your monitor, or does it look better on the HDTV with HDMI?

VGA on Monitor looks much Clearer. Monitors are much better quality my friend. always have been. If your brother is getting a bad picture, something isn't right with the Monitor or Cables.

Thats not to say an HDTV is bad, they are unreal, but Computer Monitors Display Much better Quality overall, Its actually very easy to see. But I use my 52" TV more just because of the Size and Surround Sound setup. its unreal.

Overall Quality a good PC Monitor with a Good Refresh Rate is much better than any HDTV.

Reason why I mention that I have a 92 Series Aquos is because that Model is only availble from Sharp or TV Specialty Stores. You cannot buy the High End HDTV's from Big Box Stores like Bestbuy, Wal-Mart ect.. They only sell the Base Models and Overstock from the previous Generations. If you buy an HDTV from Bestbuy its almost a Guarante thats its last years base model overstock from the TV Company. thats how it has always worked. I can't bring myself to buy that junk. thats also why they constantly put them onsale. They buy the old Technology and sell it at current year prices. They make a killing off selling old Technology.

You compare my Model to the Base model, its night and day in quality. espeshally in gaming.

I know monitors are generally good quality. I just thought the 360 looked bad through VGA because I've tried the VGA with my 360 on my HDTV and my brother tried it on his monitor. It was the official MS VGA cable and the picture was bad on both. Because of this I find it hard to recommend the 360's VGA cable to anyone. I'm genuinely surprised that you're saying you get a better picture using your 360 on your monitor through VGA than you do using HDMI on your HDTV.

x-2tha-z, you tried VGA on an HDTV, meh, I do it on PC monitors and it looks better anyways. Then again, VGA started on PC. It must be his monitor or something, I wonder what brand it is.

You've connected your 360 to your monitor using VGA? How did it look? Did it look better than your 360 connected to your HDTV using HDMI? I find it strange people are saying VGA is better. I always thought HDMI was the best connection.

Yes, I did it on 2 monitors, 1 CRT and 1 LCD, and it did look great, way better than component, which even looked like crap on my monitors. And it gives you more res options like PC res(1440x900, etc.). But I also used HDMI, and while it's great, there's not much of a huge difference to tell which is better, HDMI or VGA, but that's just how my monitors are. Though HDMI is easier to connect with.

VGA is nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be, though I wouldn't probably use it on an HDTV.

HMDI is better than VGA. Do that or a HDMI -> DVI (if you're already using the HDMI port for something else).

What looks better - 360 on monitor with VGA, or 360 on HDTV with HDMI?

For HDTVs, it is, but with PC monitors, it's almost on par.

For me, that's hard to say, you can't really tell which is better thanks to the certain PC monitor/HDTV you used, HDMI might be better since it works well with PC monitors(I used) and HDTVs while VGA is best with PC monitors, but the difference isn't that huge. If you game on both, go HDMI.
