While playing Tekken 6, I was losing on the last round with my health bar half gone. The game suddenly started to lag, I lost the game and was about to play again when I got this message "I noticed you made the game lag when you was about to lose" This and some other messages from the same person basically stating that the lag puts me at an advantage. I wont go into detail of the back and forth of themessages we exchanged but, can anyone explain the mentality of people like this? Surely they can understand that if it lags forthem it lags for me, if they find it hard to pull off combos because of the lag then so do I.Games lag and disconnects for everyone sometimes but, there's no need to be an a**h*le about it.

In some games lagging makes you quit, and then it doesn't count as a loss for you OR a win for the other person. Basically there are those players who will make a game lag on purpose when they are losing (by messing with their internet hardware) so that they don't get a loss on their record. It is childish. It sounds like that's what he thought you were doing. Lag occurs all the time and affects both players (or teams) but intentional lag making someone quit a game is what annoys gamers the most.

I can't explain the mentality of people on xbox live. Its one of those things that I don't bother trying to understand.

That pretty much just destroys the experience I think. I can't stand people who do that.

It's actually possible to make a game lag for someone else and not you. Some people abuse it in some games and because of that a lot of people just like to whine and complain even when it's just normal lag. If it's not lag they will blame something else because they seem to think they are unbeatable and can never lose.

Yes I agree with some people think they should never lose. I was playing hot pursuit the other day with two guys who apparently I wasn't supposed to try and stop them even though I was a cop, then if I tried they would curse me. There will always be people like that who you're supposed to let win or they say you cheat.

I hate those type of gamers. I honestly hate all the gamers who get mad for no reason. I mean come on it is just a game. Nothing else. You won't earn money from winning a round.

I created a lobby in street fighter 4 the other day and a guy from the US joined. The connection wasnt great as I live in the EU and after I beat him he accused me of using lag to win.

The thing is when you try to join a lobby, the game shows you a clear indication of how good / bad the connection is. In our case the connection had the lowest rating, yet he still joined the lobby, lost and complained about the lag.

Moral of the story:

Pay no attention to idiots online

Yeah, unfortunately you do get people like this over online play... you just have to get used to it, I'm afraid.

Well lag isn't always like that. For example in Halo 2 people could standby, which made the game lag for usually one team or certain people. The other team or person doing it were not effected and could still play while you couldn't (if you were getting lag your screen went to a reconnecting screen). That is a problem...

There is also the issue of it being more common for people in 1v1 games to either leave or make it so neither player gets the win when that player is losing. Doing either of these things on purpose is just being a big jerk and for the person on the other end they can either guess it was on purpose or not and when the entire game is fine, but then either lags or the opponent disconnects at the last second they usually guess it was on purpose.

Of course you also people that will get extremely mad for simply losing a game, when nothing goes room besides you were better than them. So that happens too.

Your halo 2 bit was very game specific, I can understand discconecting before loosing is out of order but you say lag like the other person is some how forcing lag PLEASE EXPLAIN how you would make a game lag. Plus the TC said he finished the game at it was lagging for him so he did nothing wrong.

I'll agree that they don't have to be rude but at the same time i understand where they are coming from. Live is notorious for standbying and some people even have dedicated devices that let them standby whenever they want. Ive also heard of people inducing lag by downloading torrents, bridging host, ect. Ive played many games where everything was running fine until it started to lag horribly just long enough for my opponents to make a come back and then everything would be fine afterwards coincidence I think not. Combine that with the fact that most games use p2p for their online and you have a cheaters paradise. In most p2p games lag is highly advantageous to the host aka the "Host advantage " that's so well know in gears. What seems like a small amount of lag to the host can be hell for everyone else.

So yeah there's often legitimate lag and that can't be helped by there's there's also a lot intentional lag out there and i can see how people become infuriated. Also fighting games are notorious for hate mail. Win/lose it doesn't matter you'll likely get hate mail often on both sides of the fence so just ignore it.

In games that do not use dedicated servers their is a process that the local host can use to make the game lag for others but not lag for him/herself. I am not going to go into great detail about it but it is commonly called lag switching and anyone on here who denies its existence either does not play online shooters (halo or gears series) or uses this strategy themselves. It is very annoying to be winning a match only to have the game slow down on you and then the other team miraculously wins because no one can move but the host. This is why I am so excited about Gears 3 having dedicated servers. Lag switching really turned me off on Gears 2 because it was so rampant throughout the community.

I know most of you are right and that I should just ignore the idiots but, it never ends. If I'm not been accused of cheating (which I never do)then I'm been accused of been cheap and told to learn how to play the game properly in beat em ups in particular (if the other player is so sh*t hot at the game then why do I beat em with only a few moves) I know I'm just venting but, what ever happened to been polite. I won't drop any names when I say this, even some pro beat em up players I've played against are some of the rudest, most arrogant pr**ks I've come across on xbox live. Is there a board on this site for finding friendly gamers to play with? Or is that just the stuff of legend.

1. You were playing Tekken 6 on Xbox? I thought the game would surely be dead by now considering Street Fighter is the only fighter popular in America. How's the community?

2. People seem to think everyone lagswitches. I've never heard of anyone doing it in a fighting game but your opponent probably thought you were.

The game is very much alive. I never have trouble finding a match on there. As for the community, I think it's dying to be honest. As you said ''Street Fighter is the only fighter popular in America''

I remember lagswitches made Halo 2 a nightmare to play on the original Xbox.
