Windows vista installed the driver but when I went to play it I got an unreconized format message. It played a normal dvd with no problem but not a HD. I did read you need to get cyber link ultra which is 100.00 bucks . Any other idea or programs that play hd?

Thanks

Hate to break it to you, but HD-DVD is dead. It lost the format war to Blu-Ray. That was $100 wasted

yeah.....the format isn't popular anymore...that's why his drive won't work.

You should ask in the PC forums. I doubt anyone here would've tried it on their pc. I've got it for my 360. If you get it working you should get the Ultimate Matrix Collection, King Kong and Transformers. All those look amazing. I'd say King Kong is the best looking High-Def movie I've seen including all the movies I've got on Blu-ray.

I'm not sure how you are hooking it up to your computer, but I think its a pretty decent deal now that the hd dvd drive is only $50. I know that HDdvd is dead, but for $50 its a good deal and I think that there are a good amount of good movies on hddvd that makes it worth it. On thinking about it now, I guess you are trying to hook up the usb plug into your pc and play the movies on your screen. I do not think that you need that program, google it a bit and see if you can find an easier, and cheaper way.

You need many things to get it to work on your PC:

- Windows Vista (There is a way to get it to work on XP!!).

- A monitor that is HDCP compliant.

- An HD Media Player Software (Which should contain an HD decoder).

As previously stated, you need an HDCP compliant monitor and graphics card before you begin. Now, all you need to do is follow these instructions and you should be set. For this, I think (I just skimmed it), he outputted the signal via HDMI to a TV - which you may or may not want to do. If you don't, disregard that part of the tutorial.

Remember, you're going to need a Media Player which supports HD content, and the best one I know of (and used in the link) is CyberDVD (properly known as "CyberLink PowerDVD").
