I tried playing Oblivion, went 8 hours before selling it. The game was boring and has nothing going on (personal note, the graphics were bland and the world was far from beautiful). Anyway, I've always been a fan of the Final Fantasy series (7,9 and 10) and Lunar series. They are some of my favourite games, but I also really disliked Blue Dragon. I'm not sure if I should shell out the cash for another Mistwalker game.

So thats my taste in RPGs, not sure which to get. I know Lost Odyseey isn't out yet, but I thought I'd ask before I look on launch day.

Lost Odyssey

If you weren't a big fan of KOTOR or Oblivion, Mass Effect probably isn't your bag. Lost Odyssey is supposed to have different gameplay styles than Blue Dragon, not as bland, and much closer to Final Fantasy. Read the reviews on Lost Odyssey on different sites.

No offense but I disagree. I never played KOTOR, and I disliked Oblivion very much. But I loved Mass Effect. And Lost Odyssey looks promising. Check out the reviews at Gametrailers.com and IGN. Mass Effect is definitely worth your money. But if you're more into turn-based JRPGs, then LO would probably be for you. I'm still a skeptic on LO, I'll have to wait and see more reviews, and pick it up a week after it's release.

i hated mass effect, i loved oblivion, and i never played KOTOR cause i didnt buy the first xbox cause it had no games i like. with that said, youll like the battle system in Lost Odyssey much more than Mass Effect most likely since you like the final fantasy series. mass effect has a lot of technical issues that might hamper the experience for you, it destroyed it for me. lost odyssey seems to have a much better battle system than blue dragon, although i loved blue dragon as well.

Mass Effect is a great game. It feels very different from KOTOR because most of the combat plays as a third person shooter.

Lost Odyssey is supposed to be old school RPG'ing. Like, very old school. Some people have said it's like playing an RPG from 1995!

I'm curious about your comments about Oblivion. You said there was nothing to do. Oblivion is full of stuff to do. Easily over 100 hours of gameplay on just quests. Then there's caves and ruins to explore for cool items and all that DLC. You also said the graphics were bland. I thought the graphics were, and still are, some of the best you'll see on 360. Are you playing on a HDTV?

Anyway, back on topic. I'd say you should get Mass Effect or Eternal Sonata depending on if you want a WRPG or JRPG.

I am playing on a HDTV, its 47inches, with a fantastic audio setup. I don't know about the gameplay of oblivion, I found very ew interesting quests to keep me busy. Everybody in the game mentions something to do, but nothing compelled mt to follow through in Oblivion. It wasn't intriguing or exciting, the quests all felt empty. The same with the graphics, looking around Hyrule in Twilight Princess was awe inspiring, but Oblivion always looked artificial and typical. I found the art style and world to have no soul to it, but this is again just me. I know lots of people like it and thats great, I just wanted to have people understand that I didn't, so they would have more information to help inform their advice.

I couldn't really get hooked on Oblivion either for some reason, even though it's a good game itself.

I liked FF VII, IX, and X to, so pry go for LO. Your decision. Read up on them.

Yes. It's funny how different two peoples opinions can be. I've got both versions of Twilight Princess and I don't think it looks anywhere near as good as Oblivion. I think most people would agree with me on that.

I said in my last post you should get Mass Effect or Eternal Sonata. After your latest post I've changed my mind. You should definitely get Mass Effect. The soundtrack in Mass Effect is awesome. You and your fantastic audio setup will love it.

I'd check out Eternal Sonata actually.. It plays like a traditional JRPG but with a few combat twists that make it really fun.

But you really can't go wrong with Mass Effect, either.

I avoid Lost Odyssea simply because I've heard of it getting bad reviews.

4 great reviews and 1 bad reviews = bad reviews??

I dont think so.. gamespy was the only place that gave it below 80% so far

IGN = 8.2/10

Gametrailers = 88%

UK 360 magazine = 4/5

UGO = 85%

and then gamespy gave it 2.5/5 (50%)

So in reality 4 out of 5 reviews liked it... thats 80% so far

Mass Effect is worth the money, great game, great replay value, and great story. I feel the same way about Oblivion, it was ok but I've had better games. I loved the FF series and from the looks of LO, it'll be a good game. Either way, I think you'll be glad to get either one (or both).

Its that awsome.

Quote: The second of two epic RPG projects for Microsoft by Mistwalker, the studio founded by Square-Enix's Hironobu Sakaguchi. You play as Kaim, a man who's been sentenced to live for 1,000 years. The game's storyline takes you through Kaim's life as he lives through multiple generations, becomes a part of many families, falls in and out of love and gets into conflicts. All this is set in a world that is on the verge of a "mystical industrial revolution," where mankind has attained dark powers.

Though it was previously announced to be a game that would be released simultaneously worldwide, that no longer is the plan for Lost Odyssey. The 40-50 hour, 4 DVD RPG will come stateside early next year, several months after it is released in Japan. http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/731/731773.html

Kaim Argonar

Quote: Kaim is a man who has lived for 1,000 years. Even with the ferocity of the battles he encounters, his body will not perish. Though tormented with 1,000 years of memories, he goes about the land as a mercenary of war.

Seth Balmore

Quote: Seth is a woman who, like Kaim, has lived for 1,000 years. Undaunted by life, she has a strong will to not give in to the memories of the past, and faces the mystery of her own immortality. During game footage, Seth was shown to have at least one son who was much physically older than she currently is.

Thanks for all the advice, but I still have no clue which to choose. As much as I hate to say it I may be going to Blockbuster and giving them both a rent to try out, hate supporting that store but there's no other rental places near me. Thanks again everyone
