Does the play and charge kit only charge when your playing or can it charge even when your xbox is in standby???

If you turn off the console while it is charging....it will continue charging until finished.

The Play n Charge kit has gone up in price since I bought a 360 nearly 2 years ago.....

Why is that? I got one at Best Buy the other day for $22.99

The original MSRP price was 19.99
