the best thing to do is contact your dsl support. They should be more than happy to walk you through the basic set up. However, if it gets to the point where the router itself is the issue, they will refer you to the router manufacturer for more specialized support. You just bought the router so in both cases the support should be free and offer a more in depth and specialized support experience than those of us on the boards.
What exactly do I tell the DSL then?the best thing to do is contact your dsl support. They should be more than happy to walk you through the basic set up. I had a similar problem before. On the back of my modem, there was a little reset button. The kind that you need to press with a pen or such. When you switch it over to the xbox, press it for 15 seconds, then let it reboot back up. Afterwards, you should be fine. This is assuming that your modem has a reset button, of course.RebellionRebornI love you. Thank you SO much.
the problem is, you will need to do that, every time you switch between the two. Also setting up a static ip will not help either. Also do not mention static ip to your dsl provider, or they will try to sell you a service based static ip, which is different from setting one in the router. The fact is you need specific settings from the isp because the issue your having has to do with the router and the modem both trying to manage your network. If you call your isp and get the info specific to the hardware they sent you, you wont have to do the cat 5 hokie pokie anymore.
