I'm trying to look around and find a 360, and I was wondering if this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8514306&type=product&id=1186006196578would give me a warranty in case I got the RROD, and what is the silver status thing?

It has what I need: A system, a controller, and a game to sell. But what are some drawbacks of this?

  • No mic (not a huge deal)
  • Small hard drive (still not a really big deal)
  • Anyting else?

Thanks for the answers.

It actually has no HD, just built in 256MB of storage... the access to Xbox Live silver means you can download things, maintain friends, but you can't play MP...

the silver membership lets you download things, add friends and send messages but does not allow you to play online multiplayer.

You can play MP with Gold though, which you can purchase... and when you first make a Live account, you get a free month of Gold... The best suggestion I can give to play MP is to buy the HD Live starter pack... $100 for the 60GB HD, 3 months of Live, a Headset, and an ethernet cable... good deal since everything bought apart is about $150...

And to answer your original question... all new 360s have a 3 year extended RROD warranty by default, so yes, that one does...

I also recommend you get THIS 360... according to a review site I was reading... XGX-00019 360s are most likely Jasper models and therefore less likely to get the RROD...

And I'm glad I can get the warranty. Thanks for the help

New 360s have a 1 year standard warranty... for all other problems... the RROD is the only error covered by the extended 3 year warranty...

Microsoft XBOX 360 60GB Hard Drive Live Starter Pack

For $100 you get:

60GB HD

Xbox 360 Headset

3 Month Xbox Live Gold Subscription Card

An Ethernet Cable (I don't know the length, I think it is 6 feet)

Nevermind about that last post. I'm only buying the system and what it comes with for right now, but I'll eventually get all that stuff.

So if I bought the Arcade system it would be $200. It comes with Silver Status, so I can play demos and stuff until I buy the gold.

Yes... but you get a free month (30 days) of gold when you create your account... so you can play MP for free for the first month... after that, if you haven't bought more time, yes... you can download demos until you do get gold again...

i dont know if anyone has mentioned this yet but you need a hard drive for Xbox live. You cant just use that 256 mb thing, which is pretty useless since most demos are 300 mb and up. So dont buy an arcade buy a 60gb xbox.

Trust me, if I had the money to get a larger HD, I would.

But that raises the question, is it possible to save any of that stuff on a USB drive? (demos, videos, etc.)

Like others have said, there's an automatic 1 year warranty for most all problems. The only thing to watch out for is how Microsoft handles when the warranty starts. My Xbox's warranty started a good 4 months before I bought it, I'm guessing that's when Bestbuy got it from MS. They let you dispute their records but afaik you need the receipt so make sure you keep a hold of the receipt and don't throw it away.
