On the poll I would say Gears has the best gameplay for a TPS game, Mass Effect has the brilliant story. But the all time greatest TPS game ive played is Metal Gear Solid 4

Very true. I went for gears because I think it is actually the best TPS on the 360 but it was also the only game on the list that I would class as a TPS.
On that list, Gearsdefinitely gets my vote. But I also like G.R.A.W, which is a tactical shooter, but it has 3rd person action in it. I like Red Faction: Guerrilla as well.
Hybrid TPS or pure TPS, I would have to say Gears of War series, hands down. This is a bit off-topic but I'm a little disappointed with the new update. I hate getting kicked out of a Horde party at wave 45.. by the Host just because he "can." This totally contradicts the problem with people quiting games when there are people out there like me who actually want to see it through. /rant :P
The perspective hardly makes any difference. But Gears is the best shooter. I like Mass Effect more but it's not a better shooter. And GTA IV is more of an action adventure game then a straight up shooter.

That aside, now that the update allows players to join mid-game, you have a better chance than ever before at completing a horde game i matchmaking. I made it to wave fifty in public matchmaking for the first time, in fact.
they aint TPS they are open world Huh? They are still 3rd person shooters.
no they are not, just because they have 3PS elements does not make them true 3PS. It would be like called Fallout 3 or Oblivion FPS, they are RPGs with FPS elements

But I guess if I picked one of those it would be GTA by a mile. Gears of War is one of the most overrated video game series of all time.

One would argue GTA (IV) isn't a third person shooter. It's a sandbox/open world game and you get guns and you can shoot in there. But at the end of the day, it isn't a Third Person shooter. It's a sandbox game. Splinter Cell and Mass Effect are more of a TPS than GTA.
