I thought they where photo realistic this generation.
Just look at games like mass effect, assasins creed, gears of war, splinter cell, crysis, fight night.
I personally think that graphics will become photo realistic, at least the enviroments, i just don'tthink they'll get human movement and interaction just perfect... wii60_lukatoll
spot on
maybe as the industry continues to grow and budgets become bigger we should see games with really quality animation
and acting especially facial (lip synch and emotions etc)
I was playing golden eye on my N64 the other night. In some aspects the game still seems to be years ahead on this current "next gen"
I think this is a natural progression of gaming. For those of us that remember playing games on the CGA (4-bit color) monitors, the past 15 years have shown marvelous leaps in the realism of the characters in games, facial expressions and so on. As time progresses you will see digital actors that will rival movie actors quite easily.
Another BIG aspect is going to be natural physics and natural material representation. We will begin to see digital actors, move around very realistically in their digital environments. Another aspect is going to be clothing that actually moves with the characters and trees that sway in the wind and so on. With the improved processor power and graphics power, this will all come to fruition in the next few years..
However, there is always going to be a caveat..I think most developers will stop well before making things ultra-realistic. Mainly because right now the delineation between digital and real life is easily perceptible. But if that line blurs, then you'll have people complaining about all the killing and other things..it will no longer seem like a game, but real life..

Umm... no. Goldeneye has terrible graphics, bad A.I. and a lame gun system. No one could carry as many guns at a time as James Bond is magically capable of carrying. Goldeneye was good back in the day, but it doesn't stand up to any decent FPS of this gen.
the new gran tourismo is basically there it looks so realistic by next gen im in hope that racing games look real and that fps have improved graphics but they wont be photo relistic.

my comment was in regards to animation. Golden eye was one of the first games to use really good animation in hit detection. Each part of a guards body would react differently when hit. I think there were multiple animations for each part. Vrious different death animaions. It seems to be a feature the begun and ended with golden eye (and perfect dark)
I play alot of FPS and none of them picked up on this realistic feature like golden eye did
