Wouldn't Rivet City be a better example? There isn't much protecting Megaton. Also, a place with an atomic bomb laying in the middle of it is a safe place to live? :)

Wouldn't Rivet City be a better example? There isn't much protecting Megaton. Also, a place with an atomic bomb laying in the middle of it is a safe place to live? :) Honestly, Rivet City seems too techh-oriented for my taste, rather than all the scavengers and such working together to try and keep themselves protected from Mutants and Raiders. Rivet City also did this, but Megaton seems more "American" by bringing in all types of people.
Oasis is one of the coolest ones, and there's a small town in southern part of the map(forgot the name) full of crazies. Paradise falls is destroyed in my game:D
Republic of Dave is awesome. My name is Dave, so it's like I have my own little settlement! And I rule all over the Republic of Dave!!! Plus there's a bobblehead there, so that was cool.
Of the big places, I like Underworld because the ghouls are awesome and Charon is the man.

Once you understand where your going you can get a lot of good items. So much easy stuff to steal in the marketplace to, and you get the stealing independence quest which i actually liked a lot.
