I am really looking forward to 360, but I was turned off by the failure rates. Is it really as bad as everybody says on SW? If it is I would have to think twice about my upcoming purchase. Thanks for the help!

People like to over exaggerate. If you get a new one the failure rate is suppose to be really low. And if it does happen to you it's always free repair for up to 3 years anyways. But definitley don't let the failure rate stop you from buying the best next gen console. The price is also only $299 ($199 for arcade), so you can't go wrong

Same thing for me except the failure rate doesn't bother me because I treat my consoles right. I'm just wondering though, should I get the Elite or the 60GB one? I mean sure I'll download patches for the games but I don't really plan on getting anything from the marketplace because all of those Arcade games look really uninteresting. What I mean is, will 60GB really be enough?

Most electronics have small problems but sometimes you just get fed up of waiting for the other side to get their act together and take a risk with it

It should be fine now. There have been several improvements since launch. I havent heard many talk about RRoD with the newer versions.

Ive got a launch console and an elite, and I have never had one issue, and if you do get a bugged system then it get fixed for free, this is a non-issue now.

60gb should be fine for you, I've got the 120 and it's got about 20gb left on it. Yeah, I downloaded the entire 3 year seasons of "Lost", LOL.

....and Castle Crashers on the arcade is AWESOME.

Basically you will only need the 60GB version. The elite is a completely useless unit now that the new 360's have HDMI. I only have the 20GB HDD version and its been fine. If you get a console that was manufactured within the past few months you will be fine. The old consoles have faulty hardware so you probably would want to stay away from any of the 20GB units that are on sale now cause they may be faulty. You can google 'how to tell if my 360 is falcon' and there should be some useful info that can point you in the right direction.

just buy it. even if it still had a horrendous rate, which it doesnt with the newer systems, its still by far worth it as i play my 360 10 times more than any other system ive ever owned. the amount of quality games on it is ridiculous and xbox live is better than any other online service so it really is a great gaming machine.

I say get one, i've had mine for over a year and it's running perfectly, people tend to over-exaggerate about the failure rate

buy it! it works really well. the DVD drive is excellent and there's great exclusives. plus 360 versions of games outsell PS3 games by at least 2 to 1. :D

Newer 360s like the ones in stores and stuff have some kind of in it (Falcon chip or sumtin) that is supposed to prevent all these console meltdowns. I've had mine for almost a year and it is used frequently by many people and it run fine (it's got the chip). My friend had an older model and his melted down and he was the only 1 on his console and he did not play for hours on end often. He even refused to leave the 360 on when he went up 4 dinner or sumtin. Don't buy used, i suggest getting HD hookups (Elite comes w/) and enjoy yourself.

I have no problem with mine... and sometimes I play it all day and it still doesn't get overheated or anything. If it gets to the point where it doesn't work M$ will repair it for free for up to 3 years so you should be alright. Also the newer models have a lower failure rate. Go for it man, you can't go wrong.

When the 360 first came out they would burn up like chipmunks over a fire, but the newer versions are very reliable and have the best gaming library and online experience over all of the next gen consoles, I personally am still terrified of my 360 getting RRoD or one of the other damaging issues but what I did to get me past my fear is I hid some extra cash away so if I happen to have to pay for any repairs (which you shouldnt for RRoD or anything else for atleast the first year.) or I really need my 360 back I could ship it overnight and back but I dunno thats what got me past my fear of RRoD, E74 etc. etc. :). But still the risk is totally worth it :D!

This is the wrong board to ask. Everyone is biased.

Being a Sony fanboy, but also have a great amount of respect for the 360, buy it.

Don't be afraid to buy one because of failure rate issues, those are the past. New xbox 360s shouldnt fail at all now
