I understand as games get older less people play them and you want to waste as little effort as possible on its online servers but it seems odd that EA is flat out canning all its 06 games from online play to help push its sales for the next years games which braught little to the table and hampered sales. Now im not saying that tactic is wrong, yes its sleazy as hell, but i cant fault them for trying to grub as much money as possible. My question comes into play in that without repackaging existing games out on the market for a while, wouldnt all older games have to cease from being sold to avoid a lawsuit? IF you have something like Fight Night Round 3 out in stores in the platinum sales 30 buck bin and on the game it clearly states online play, only Ea pulled the plug on all its older games, wouldnt continued sales of said game be false advertising? promising a feature of the game that clearly no longer exists? Granted today the online is up but most games are getting the boot in sept, and others in novermber including need for speed and FNR3. IT just seems like they would have to alter their boxes to mirror the actual product now, rather then the old box with features that do not exist within the purchase.

Im sure there is some loopholes all over but still, it seems like somethign that could come back to bite them finacially, if not now then in the future. why would people buy any of their games in the future if it will be cut off in a year? They better find a way to make one hell of a product if after a year all we will getr is shoddy single player experiences with weak AI.....

i've never heard of this, but if its true its another reason why i hate EA.

but then again, i usually don't play games for more than a year, as with most other people. graw had me going up until graw 2's release though, but thats only b/c of clan matches. any other game that i have played for around a year is on the PC, or an MMO (well i guess gears is getting pretty close to lol)

It was true at the time they released the game, so no. It costs money to upkeep servers, so there's no point in supporting online play for games that have barely any traffic, especially once newer versions of the same franchise are released.

true but in many of those cases, the new games added little to gameplay if at all from a roster update. But i know (granted fifa 07 could have changed it) in fifa 06 there was no world cup, so you had to buy world cup to play in it, so unless fifa 07 has the world cup in it, we wont get a chance to play it until the next one rolls around

I care little about this as I've learned a long time ago not to buy any EA game. Their commitment to their games is downright awful.

Well, actually I doubt it could be a lawsuit because what was printed on the back was true when they printed it so its not false advertising if anyone brought this up with EA they would probably just reply take a look at the fine print on the back of the game.

I feel oppositely. (Ubisoft = Platform Spammers. (Ex.Assassin's Creed is going to be on the DS) They're the kings of rehashes as well (Either let Prince of Persia die or come up with an original game, k?))

Business only care about the bottom line, and the bottom line is that it isn't worth the $ to support the older games, so that's what they're doing, whether people feel the newer games are glorified updates or not. NCAA/Madden actually looked like they've been thoroughly revamped this year, btw. (Not getting Madden for the first time in a while though, do to time constraints)
