I'm going to buy a 360 very soon, but I'm not sure if the Elite is worth the extra $100. It's my understanding that the only difference is a larger harddrive and an HDMI cable. Is that worth $100? I don't do much downloading from the VC with my Wii, so I can't see myself doing any more on the 360. The other issue is that I'm thinking about waiting for the new, cooler chip. Your thoughts are appreciated.

well i think u answered it yourself, since your not doing a lot of downloading get the premium. unless you just love the color black. or ya you can wait and not play any 360 games for awhile to wait for some new "chip". thats cool too.

Newer Premiums coming out later this year will have HDMI I believe. Also, I've had a Premium since its launch in 2005, and I still have about 11 gigs left. I've downloaded 5 arcade games and a lot of demos but still have plenty of room. I don't really think the extra $100 is justified unless you plan on downloading many demos, arcade games, movies, tv shows etc. If you don't plan on doing that, just get the Premium. For $350 it's a great deal.

i have a pro which i think is good cuz im doing 1080p on my tv with component and i still have 10 gigs left with all my downloads, arcade games and demos. you probably wont need the 120 gigs unless your gonna be extreme on the downloads but for videos you could just use your computer, and you said your not so you probably wont have more use for that much space as i would, and even if your t does 1080p like mine does, the component are still good when using an optical cable. oh, and i dont think the black color looks good at all, when i've seen it it looks bad and doesnt even match my tv stand or piano black tv

i'm already down to 70gb of free space leftout of my 120gb just for about 15 demos, 1 ripped cd, and various game downloads (map packs etc). when i bought the elite it was only an extra $50. even for an extra $100 it's still worth the extra space.

Yeah you can wait for that chip, and then the Xbox 1080 will be out. lol

Actually I read somewhere that the chip will be soonor already is in there, they just don't announce things like that. Anyways, I plan on getting the premium for the same reason you stated.

Do you really think it will be that long before the new chip comes out? Is it worth waiting for?

As of now the two consoles are basically Identical bseides the HDD seeing that the Premiums now have HDMI

Were you to buy the Premium, with the 20GB HDD, and later to decide you need a bigger HDD, which I needbut I have videos, over 50 XBLA, and loads of DLC, but yes if you wanted to buy a new one the 120GB HDDs are currently $180. THe 20GB then are only $100.

So basically you are spending that extra $100 now when buying the system so that you dont have to go back and spend $180 later on if you decide you want more space.

But if you dont download much at all and dont plan on it, dont spend the extra money on memory, if you however want a few tv shows or a lot of demos or XBLA I would, from my experience advise getting the Elite.

You just have to ask the store clerk for an HDMI premium when you buy one.

Depending on where you go, that might not be the best idea. Many store clerks are clueless. If you know what to look for then it's very easy to spot. It clearly says "HDMI Port" under the list of contents on the front.

I have an elite. I'm not going to defend it because, I really don't think it is worth the money. The reason I got it was because the circuit city guy upgraded it to the elite for free because we were buying a whole home theater unit and he didn't wanna lose us to best buy :). The black is nice though :).

This is a very telling response. Most people that spent the extra money for the Elite are going to defend it b/c they don't want to feel like they wasted money. You didn't pay for it, so you don't feel the same obligation.
