Every "new" game they sell is pre-opened. This is why I either preorder a game from Gamestop or buy it somewhere else. When I want a new game, I want a new game.

This has happened to me, but they didn't tell me it was open, and I paid full price. So when I would get in my car and open the bag, sometimes I discover used games that I paid full price for. I don't care, once the plastic wrap is taken off of the case....it is pre-owned. I have taken them back and forced managers to refund me and charge me the used price.

That's one reason I don't like to go to Gamestop or EB Games, not to mention they're always A-holes to everybody except parents with cash, I'd rather go to Wal-Mart than there which I do now.

They always gut one new copy to display in the store. Its still a new game, they just have to open one so they can display it on the shelf.

an open game is NOT a new game. A new game is one that is still factory sealed. Also, they do play many of the "new" games themselves.

No, actually, we don't.

We never receive empty display boxes for the shelves. We get empty coming soon boxes, but once a game comes out, we only have the copies that we sell.

Therefore, for anyone to know what we actually have in stock, we have to open a game, put the disk in a sleeve and the case on the shelf. If we didn't do this, the shelves would be empty.

Just because a game is not wrapped in plastic does not deny it's status as a new game. A new game is a disk that has not been played. I don't know about you, but relocating a game from box to sleeve then back to box upon purchase does not constitute using the the game, as it's never been near a console.

I know, I was in EB the other day and a college age kid was buying a DS she didn't have a clue what she was buying, she just wanted something to play on her 10 hour trip.  She picked up a DS and a game and the manager told her she was pretty much buying crap and should spend more for the lite.  After she left he said to the other employee that he needed the $200 + sale.

10% off??  They must have changed their policy after all the stink about this a couple months back.  I have bought two games from Gamestop that were priced new, but had been opened.  Both were the last copy and the disc was in a drawer, but the case was on the shelf for display.  I never got 10%.  This practice got big press a bit ago.  Gamestop must have finally done something about this.

One I do not like Game Stop, they really rip people off when it comes to trade in. Two When I do go to game stop it is when they have the buy two get one free used game deals. When I do buy a used game, It has to have a new looking case for me, great condition instruction book, and the disc has to be perfect. If any of those are not to my standard I will not buy from them. Last the only other time I go is to get a game I really want and can not find it anywhere close to me. I did BS with their manager the last time I went in there, he ask me if I wanted to be an assistant manager fr him. He was telling me the benefits of working for them, and one was when a new game comes in, the employees get to take a copy home fr a few days and play it. I ask how can they do that? He told me that when they bring it back they sell it, fore the new price. I told him that was not right, and he said it was just a benefit of working there. He also quite a few days later because the area supervisor was working him to many hours on salary. So it is not just the costumers the treat bad , it is their employees to.

I work at gamestop and this is what happens every last new game they have you have to open it and then put the box on the floofrto show you have the game. if you ever get the last copy you automatically get 10% off because its open and never been played usually. if you buy a new game and it was the last copy you can play and return it and say you didnt want it since it was the last copy.

yes, it does mean that it's not new. The whole point of buying a NEW game is that it's brand new and unopened. Once you open a game it becomes used. And yes, employees do often play the games, as I know the ones who work at mine personally, and they have admitted that. Gamestop itself is fundamentally flawed because they don't give themselves enough room to stock NEW, unopened games in a backroom or whatnot. At my GS, every "new" game is already opened, regardless of whether it's a display or not. They keep every games in a sleeve in a drawer, save a few rare ones. The only way to get a new new game is to preorder it. Which is why I only buy used or preordered games there. Also, I only trade in games when they have super deals (got 45 bucks for Gears). Gamestop is bad for the industry, really, as they often fleece unknowing consumers. (Similar to Retailers and computers)

Anyone have similar problems with EB?  I know they merged a while back.

I remember when EB had their great return policy.  You buy a game, try it out, and if you didn't like it, you could return it within 10 days for a full refund.  Fantastic, right?  Except if you decided to buy a game after someone returned it.  EB would just shrinkwrap the game and sell it as new.  That's why I miss the factory sealed labels (akin to new DVDs and CDs) that used to be on PS2/Xbox games.  The next gen games don't have these labels.

Every 360 game I've bought brand new has the factory sealed label on it. Just like Xbox did.

I've always been satisfied when I buy new. It's the tradeins...as someone said before, that really get you. They are blatantly making like 40% margins on selling preused consoles. You can see them on the shelves right next to the counter when they tell you what bottomfeeder price they're giving you for your stuff.

The evil thing at EB is that they'll peel off that factory seal to get the game out and put it back.  I bought a "brand new game" and they go into their drawer and pull out a sleeve then peel off the seal put in the game and stick it back on.  Sneaky buggers if you ask me
