Pretty hard to choose. Both excelled in platforming in their own ways, with TFS being somewhat better (power of flow was amazing). Both had big flaws in combat but I guess I choose PoP 2008 since combos could become somewhat imaginative whereas TFS combat was plain button mashing (and Rock Armour made it ridiculously easy). PoP 2008 was a bit repetitive where TFS was too short and with a pretty generic story, PoP 2008 had a better story imo since there were the talks with Elika that gave it some depth. Overall I think that PoP 2008 was a greater experience, maybe because it was a refreshment for the series, and I do NOT consider Elika saving the Prince's life a bad thing since it is just a refined checkpoint system (TFS was a lot easier with the power of time)

TFS had the better gameplay. 2008 had the better graphics/production values. Since gameplay is most important for me I liked TFS better.

2008 gameplay was too much like one giant quick time event for my liking. The "platforming" is really your guy running along automatically in a certain direction and you are required to press a button to change his direction (for example if you see a ring, you push a button and he will grab it and start running on the ceiling, if you see a certain color plate you press a different button and he will latch onto it and start moving up the wall, etc) or you move the stick left or right so that the prince will avoid obstacles while he automatically runs along a set path. The combat is also very auto pilot. Its just you and one enemy at a time. The Prince autolocks onto the enemy so that you can't move around freely – you're always tied to the enemy as you move. You basically push a face button based on visual cues from the enemy. If you get the sequence right the prince will automatically do impressive combos to entertain you. Also havingElika always rescue you takes out all challenge from combat. As a side note, I found the "witty" banter between the prince and elika to be very annoying and did not feel that it fit the atmosphere of the game at all. I especially found Nathan Drake's voice to be totally wrong for the game. Eh... if you like pretty games that play themselves then 2008 is an enjoyable enough ride.

TFS has more of a budget game type feel to it and it is definitely not as pretty to look at. But it has the same type of gameplay as the Sands of Time trilogy POPs. You do actual platforming and you fight groups of enemies as well as bosses in free flow combat.

From best to worst I'd rate them: WW, SoT, TFS, TT, 2008.

I preferred the forgotten sands way more than 2008. TFS is the only PoP game I have finished in a long time, and I played back through ita few times actually.
