My elite just rrod on saturday. This will be my 4th xbox and my 2nd elite. What's the probability of them giving me a new elite especially if I call and give them hell about the number of xbox's I've gone through?

You think getting a "new" one instead of a "Certified Replacement Console" is gonna stop the next one from getting RRoD? Your first 360 to RRoD would have been new at one time. Same with your first Elite. It was new, and got RRoD. Them sending you a "new" one doesn't make a difference. But to answer your question anyway, from what I know, your chances are slim. Barely anybody gets a new console, for any reason.

^^ What he said, your chances are slim to none. My buddy has gone through 7 systems and they still won't hook him up with a new one.

Wow...7? That's gotta suck. But even so. They shouldn't have to give people brand new consoles. The replacement consoles are as good as new, believe it or not. I just got my 360 back yesterday, and it looks brand new, even though it's not. It's also quieter than my other 360, which is an Arcade model, so it's pretty new.

The only difference I can see is the hardware because they don't put the new hardware in there which I think they should. Then the systems would have much less of a chance of crapping out.

Not likely, my last console I got as a replacement was about a year older than the one that had broken before it. Though I hope the chances improve, because my latest 360, the one previously mentioned, just RRoD'ed on me today (conveniently when the Fable 2 DLC came out).

1. are these used in well ventalated areas?

2. I barely play mine in the summer until it's dark.

3. I never play more than 1 - 3 hours at a time 4 hours tops 6 if I'm stuck.

I'm still on my 1st 360.

I've spent more money on the original xbox failures and odds and ends than the 360.

Wow 7 xbox's and I thought I had it bad. I was just thinking the new chipsets are less susceptible to the rrod that's why i wanted a new one. I did buy a warranty from Gamestop but that expired in April and it is played in a very well ventilated area. Losing it for a few weeks for repair in a few weeks isn't going to be much of an issue because i'll be playing KZ2 and Fear 2 on ps3 and pc for the next few weeks.

Maybe one day MS will make a solid console but until then we will have to suffer the inconvenience of a flawed console. This is what takes the fun out of gaming. MS just does not get it.

The only purpose of buying an in-store warranty is if you wanna be able to return your broken 360 to the store, and get a new one straight up. If you ask me, I'll take the free warranty from MS, and wait a few weeks. But I guess some people can't handle life without games for a couple weeks...

I had a launch 360 that RRod'd a couple of years ago. I sent mine lauch console away and they sent me back a brand new one. SO it does happen.

"A couple years" ago, they were replacing all 360's with new ones. That was before they started the whole "certified replacement console" thing. At the time it happened to you, they probably didn't have a warehouse full of refurbished 360s.

I'm glad to see that you've taken excellent care of your console, and I agree with you that many of the RRoD issues are due to user error. At the same time though, there is no excuse that you have to wait until dark to play your console.

I got my launch console in 05 and had to replace it in 07, so by then there was probably already a warehouse full some where. I understand what you're trying to say though, back in 07 there was a much higher chance of getting a brand new console back from MS.

Yeah...no worries there, since that's absolutely not the case. AGAIN, to think the RRoD is caused by heat, is just complete ignorance that continues to spread because of THE STUPID COMMUNITY. I really wish big sites like this one and IGN would run articles about this kind of stuff. That way people will stop trying to come up with and suggest silly ways of trying to keep your 360 cool. It's absolutely ridiculous.
