Do any of you have your home theatre system set-up in a way such that you have your TV mounted on a wall (mine is above my fireplace) while all your electronics (Blu-Ray Player, Xbox 360, Receiver, Set Top Box) are put away in some corner of the room or in a media cabinet?

In all the vidoes and demos for Kinnect, the TVs are always on a stand on an entertainment center where the Xbox 360 and Kinnect are right below the TV on the shelves. I have never seen an example of Kinnect where it's connected to a modern home theatre set-up like I described above.

My question is this: How areyou supposed to use Kinnect if your TV is mounted more than 2 feet away from your Xbox? Are there any specs on how long the cords will be (to connect the Kinnect to the Xbox and power source)? And does the Kinnect have to be set up so that it's facing you directly or can you have it off in a corner, viewing youat an angle?

I'm sure other people are having these thoughts-- please discuss!

I doubt it'll matter too much, just move your xbox a bit if it doesnt reach the tv. But then i would imagine the cord is plenty long, there were similar concerns for a lot of people about the wii motion bar thing but its easily 2 or 3 metres long so I would imagine kinect will follow suit

I have the xbox camera and that thing has a 9 ft cord. I'm guessing that Kinect will have the same cord length. If people have their consoles stored in a media cabinet (located in a different room), then unfortunately they can't use Kinect.

I think I'd need for both the power cord and the USB cable to be at least 12 feet... Unless the Kinnect doesn't need to be 180 degrees to its target, I thinkI might be screwed.

I think that the most important thing as far as setup for Kinect is where you place the Kinect / Camera device and where you are positioned from it. Other than that, it probably doesn't matter where the TV is. Because you just need to see the TV. The Kinect device does not have to be on top of the TV or connected closely to it. And I don't know if I was just not seeing things correctly, but during the Microsoft conference, didn't it look like some, not all, of the demos had the Kinect device BEHIND the user rather than in front? Unless I saw things wrong, this is a strange revelation. Did anyone else notice that?

I didn't notice that... It would be interesting if you didn't have to face the camera...

My concerns with the Kinect are less about where it is in relation to the TV, but where it has to be in relation to where I'm sitting or standing. If I have to face the thing, then I need quit a bit of cord length to make it work.

You would think that the Kinect would behave as you said-- insofar as it should be able to establish its reference point from wherever you are in the room and then interpret movements based on that frame of reference.

well microsoft did show at e3 the camera would follow you in the room and said you won't have to adjust the camera where you stand it would adjust it self. so i don't think you would need have the camera lined up with your body.

Yeah, it can move with you once it establishes where you are.

Not to beat a dead horse, but, the meat of the question/issue is, does Kinect need you to face it? The motion tracking I understand-- it needs to be able to move on its own to follow around the room, but from the start, does it need to face you?

Everything I've seen seems to point to yes-- the motion-tracking implies that it needs to have a certain 180 degreeorientation with the players.

If only this thing were wireless, with its own processor...
