problems with Battlefield 1943 on Live

i bought battlefield last night and have not even been able to play online. it says when im creating an EA account on my xbox, that i dont have the "permissions to acess xbox live functionality". so i deleted it from my xbox and went to ea.com and created an account there. when i re-downloaded it, it said the same thing. it wont let me play anything online. i know there is a lot of problems with the servers right now, but this has nothing to do with the servers. any suggestions?

You have a XBL gold account right?

Do you have a child account? That's the only thing i can think of... you have to be 13+ to play EA games online (I had the same problem a few years ago).
