Hi, I was just wondering which way I should put my 360 when playing it. Verticle seems like it would give a better cause for the disc getting jammed inside the 360. Anyway, just curious.

Horizontal
It's much harder to accidentally knock it over if its already lying flat. Either way, give it lots of space to avoid overheating
Vertical just seems like a bad idea to me.
- It could easily fall over.
- Most of the stories I've heard of scratched disks are because the console was vertical.
- It looks to me like the gray area on the side of the 360 is a vent and an important one at that so having it vertical would block the vent.
- The last thing is just that horizontal works better for me because my NES fits perfectly between the vents on the top of the 360 when it's horizontal.
I used to have it horizontal, but the fans would get so freaking loud it was like a turbine sitting under my TV. I switched it to vertical and it's a lot quieter now :D
Horizontal!!!!!!
2 Big Reasons
1) Much lower chance of your Xbox scratching discs.
2) The biggest vent in the entire Xbox is at the bottom, which you are blocking if you stand it vertically...Increasing your chance of RROD.
i had it both ways but got the rrod after havin it vertical for 1/2 a yr but im sure it was just a coincidence
vertical saves room

You shouldn't put stuff on your 360, whether its in between the vents or not, especially stuff that heats up such as a game console or music player. Unless NESs produce barely any heat, I would get that thing off your system.
Take this advice from someone who has hands on experience of how much at risk your games are when you stand your Xbox up vertically. I lost my Gears of War twice, and I also lost my Forza motorsport. I almost lost my Call of Duty 4 too, but I turned my game off before things got worse. Microsoft made a huge mistake when making the disk trays for the 360. PS3 and Wii both have "disk sensor things" instead of the old disk tray. If you slightly move your 360 with a game in it while its on, your game gets super scratched and it wont work anymore. But with the PS3 and Wii, you can move the console all you want and nothing will happen to your disk. I recommend that you keep your 360 horizontal so it wont fall and destroy your game.SDOT55
thats why you dont move your console while its running. just simply shut it off. durr.

if you put it up vertically, you lose 2 major fans...just something to think about.

I've said it twice, doesn't seem to matter.
Continue standing it vertically so it scratches your discs, and increases your chance of RROD. Then tomorrow we can wake up to more "Boohoo I gotz da RROD, what now?" threads.
Horizontal, lol i guess my explanation is the same as others, my poor 1st gears of war
isn't it weird that the writing on the disc drive for the xbox is horizontal also? maybe Microsoft meant for it to be publicized as a horizontal console due to venting and maybe they new something about the Rrod, but maybe the advertiser or photographer thought it better to be vertical. Anyways are there any pluses to it being vertical?

How so? There are no fans on the sides of the 360, only the two in the back. The top and bottom are just vents.

Looks cooler, and saves space. Not even close enough to weigh out the cons though, considering RROD and Scratching discs will cost you money.

It's not a fan, it's the biggest vent for the Xbox 360, it's at the bottom...which you block if you stand it vertically. Go see for yourself.
Dude go safe and put it side ways I've heard of tons of bad things happening when they put it straight up.
Like my friend did it and he just tapped it on accident and it make a scratch from the outer edge to the center and back out again

Heat rises. So the heat from a vertical Xbox will move upward to the top vent or out through the fans, if the fans are blowing air out. Moving any electronics device while a disk is spinning in it will lead to scratches. They're not "earthquake" proof.
I think the point of having an Xbox vertical is for people who are playing their games on a desk, like Xbox game developers or people who just prefer to play their games from their PC's desktop. PC workstations typically stand vertical, so you would want your Xbox to stand vertically next to it. There would be no other place to put it.
