This is going to sound like a stupid question to people who have an Xbox 360 (I don't), but what do achievement points do? I've heard about earning achievement points from games, but I've never been told what they do.

They do nothing but show what youve done in the game

ok well acheivment points are stuff you do special in a game for example in gears of war if you complete the first chapter you get an acheivment poin,so basically they just tell you what you have acomplished in a game, and the acheivementsgoes towards your gamerscore wich helps you buy downloadable content

nope your wrong. Achivement points are just for show. to show "Acheivements" or things you have accomplished in a game. basically its another way to show off. they DO DONT "help you buy downloadable content" for that you need to buy Micrsoft points. but they are different than acheivements. So basiaclly Achievements are for showing off. they have no purpose other than that.

They act basically like trophies. They serve no real purpose other than to show certain things you've accomplished within certain games.

They just let people know how much you play a certain game. People play the game longer to try and get all the achievements.

Okay, so let's say I earn achievement points in two different games. Do the total points combine into one score, or do I have a seperate score for each game?

You can view your scores for individual games, but your total score is the one that's displayed next to your name when you log in.

You have a total, your "Gamerscore"...mine is listed below, but you can view the total points you have in each game as well as which achievements. :)

Hm, I'm not sure I would want too high a score, though... Then I would look like some geek who does nothing but play video games.

Ya, if your score was over 100,000. They are not hard to earn. And why would you care what you "look like" to people that you don't even know?
