Question about achievements...

I was thinking... My Xbox 360 hard drive has been acting really bizzare lately... Not loading data and not saving data and all that, and sometimes when my downloads complete they just arn't there, its really strange.

Anyway, the point of this question...

If your hard drive completely stops working, and you need to buy a new one, will you still have the achievements that you have earned on your Xbox Live account so that you can transfer to your new hard drive or whole new Xbox 360 Unit? I understand that "achievements arn't everythng, games for fun, bleh bleh bleh, etc." but some of the games that I have 1000/1000 achievements I sold back (because they sucked but I wanted to get my monies worth somehow).

So, if you have any "my friend" stories, personal stories, or links to reliable information, I would be greatful if you could post it.
