Alright, so I have an xBox 360 Elite incoming with Halo 3: ODST. Now I was wondering, will I be confused if I don't play the Halo games in order? Should I get the original xbox ones and play through them first? I plan on getting them someday in the future anyway for my collection, but if so I'll make it a priority. All responses are very appreciated :)

No, you won't really be confused. Even though ODST is technically an "expansion" of Halo 3, it is standalone in the sense that it does not follow Master Chief's story. But, it does help with the backstory if you have played all of the past Halo's. For instance, you may have a better understanding of why the ODST were sent into New Mombasa and why it is so obliterated and abandoned. I can only advise towards owning every Halo title though, as they are all classics in their own right, and you owe it to yourself to experience them. Don't mind all the hate. Apparently it just comes with the territory when something/someone has reached truly great status.

Oh and congrats on the new 360. Now that the RROD's have become much less prevalent (especially in the Elite models), it is truly a great system.

Okay great, yeah I got the Elite as a really good deal so I couldn't pass it up. Plus I really want to play some upcoming games that aren't available to me on other systems. If I successfully get this job I'm aiming at then I will be all set to get the past Halo games. Thanks for the comment and thanks for the congrats, I'm just glad I got an Elite, my previous 360 (20GB one) red ringed on me about a year ago :(

Of course. You might want to check out the Gears of War series as well. ;) Some serious blood and guts going on there, if that's your thing.

Yea I actually played both games released so far back on my first 360, great games. I'm excited about the third one :)

You absolutely owe it to yourself to play them all. Especially Halo: CE. It still holds up unbelievably well, and is truly a landmark game for the ages. While the Halo series has certainly secured its spot in the pantheon of classic series, Halo: CE is still remembered the fondest by most fans. Congrats on the purchase! If you are looking for something very unique I recommend you pick up Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise. You can get it cheap now, and it is a beautiful and addicting game full of depth and character you will seldom find elsewhere.
