I recently purchased the 360 slim to play Reach. The first day the 360 is whisper quiet, however on the second day , there is a slight humming coming from the vent on the right/top of the 360. Is this normal? Is it the fan keeping the 360 cool? This is my first 360 so I'm not sure what the fan should sound like.

I just bought the Halo Reach Console and I haven't had any problems. Its now about 3 days old and I have played the hell out of it. Its probably your fan though so don't sweat it.

You shouldn't worry at all, it should just be the fan doing it's job. Enjoy your Slim and Reach copy ;)

I think it might be the disk drive because when I go to the dashboard the hum goes away. I think that should be normal. But yes Reach is an awesome game. Multiplayer is so much fun.

This just proves it's the fan, you would be worried if the hum never went away. It's just working a tad bit more when your playing a game i guess. I also agree, Reach is awesome as.

I always play my games off of my Hard Drive. I forgot to mention that. That must be why my Xbox 360 is so quiet :P

Thats a good idea, it helps prevent the disc read error messages. Im sure that Xbox 360 S consoles can get that too.

I also got the silver Reach 360. I'm getting quite a lot of noise, but it's coming from the power brick. There's fans in the power brick. I didn't know that. The PB for my old Elite didn't make any noise. I'm quite annoyed about it because the main reason I got an S was because they were supposed to be virtually silent. The PB of my S is just as loud as my old Elite console! I returned the power brick to the store I purchased it from and they gave me a new one. The new one is just as loud as the one I returned so I know it's not faulty.
