I have a PS3 right now but might be thinking of changing for an xbox since there aren't many games yet on the PS3. I was wondering if the red ring of death problem with the xbox was really present? how much does it happen?

also i was wondering if i could use wireless internet with the xbox and if i absolutly have to pay for the Live xbox?

thank you

Hi atoun. Yeah. We usually call it RRoD, it really exists unfortunately and not an urban legend sony cooked up. Lolz.

It happens when you improperly connect your 360's cables, and when its overheating. The 3 redlights usually says your 360's dead.

I don't plan on playing hours and hours, how long is it expected befor the consol heats up, and if its a problem of cables can't the RRoD prblem be avoided?

Still id like to know about the wireless ineternet and live. Id really love to get an xbox since there are so many games and all the games im waiting for will come on both PS3 and xbox, but wireless and paying for live + console braking scares me off a bit.

btw ty for very fast and nice replies!

Umm. Sorry. I cant really answer it precisely as an expert. It really depends on the way you take care of it. Just dont go sticking it somewhere near a heatsource or somewhere cramped.

You can check out the broken360 thread here. Alot of good guys can help you better there.. LOLz

It's not even an issue anymore. I played on mine for over 14 hours straight (loser I know, another thread) and at least 4 hours a day and it's running great. Paying for Xbox Live is worth every penny.

The newer systems really don't suffer from this issue much at all. It was mainly the systems more around launch that had problems with it. I have a new system that's almost a year old and it hasn't had RRoD. If you get a new system you should be fine and you do have a year warranty for normal stuff and a 3 year warranty for RRoD.

You can buy 12 months of xbox live gold plus an extra month free. it costs about 50-60$ for 13 months, super good deal. and you have to buy a wireless adapter but if you can run an ethernet cord that would be the cheapest

PROs of PS3 online over Xbox Live:

-Free Online service

PROs of XBL over PS3:

-Less people are using Wireless, which means better connection, less lag, and less disconnections.

-Popular games like Halo 3 and GoW unavailable for PS3.

-Better support overall, but comes at a cost of about 5 dollars a month.

@Atoun: To connect to LIVE wirelessly you need to purchase the wireless adaptor. The new model costs around 99 bucks, but the older one (the one from the original XBOX) should cost you somewhere around 50 bucks and it works fine just like the new one. Silver membership is free and Gold membership isn't, but it's no rip-off. Like Enman1 said, you can buy 13 months of Gold for only 50 bucks. About the RROD, Like everyone else is saying, isn't as usual as it used to be. The launch models were poorly designed so it would die really fast. The newer models are great and if you take good care of yours you won't have to worry about a thing for a while. I've had my Xbox360 for a year and a half (playing 4+ hours a day like rp108) and never had a problem with it. Hope I could help.

i have a ps3 and 360, and my ps3 is only for certain exclusives while i do most of my gaming on the 360. RROD isnt that big of a problem anymore with the newer models. and even if anything happens you still have a 3 year warranty.

Getting a 360 is a good move. I have a PS3 and have one game for it. On my 360 I have over 50. I never play my PS3 because in all honesty it sucks compared to the 360. The online community isn't as good, I hate the controller for shooters, mandatory installs are terrible, etc. Don't get me wrong, there are some cool games on the PS3 and it is a great Blu-ray player but the 360 is where it's at for gaming.

Thanx you guys are very very helpfull! ps3 is great but right now i have only 2 games.. afro samurai which i finished and was ok and lbp... Its a great game but not my style really. I like action rpg, action advanture etc.

Anyways what i was planning to do was trade my ps3 for an xbox 360... not at a shop but with a site like ebay but for my region. Would that be a bad move since i have no warranties? I thought about going instore so they take it back but im not sure how much they'll give me for it, even if its almost brand new...

whats the dif if you get silver membership or gold?

You can only play online if you have Gold. With Silver all you can do is access the Marketplace content and keep a friend's list.

If it's possible, keep the PS3 and buy the 360. You might sell the PS3 and then it picks up and people start getting them like crazy. Then you are stuck. That's why I have all 3 systems. If I were in your situation, I wouldn't sell my PS3 and just start saving towards an 360.

Cool, well im not really a online player... since its mostly shooters and im not too good at shooters with the console controllers. This was really helpfull! im really thinking about getting one now...

Does anyone know how much Ebgames would take it back? Or would it be better to sell it on ebay or something and then buy a new xbox?

Sell it on Ebay and then buy an Xbox 360 from a retailer such as Best Buy if you're going to sell it and buy an Xbox 360. May wanna call EBGames first to ask how much they will give you for a ps3 though.

Get an in-store warranty with your 360. That way, if it fails, you can get a new one the same day. Otherwise, you have to wait three weeks for Microsoft to fix it.

Is there an actual difference between xbox360 and the elite version? apart from more space. Does the Elite version have less risks of breaking?

I've had my elite since the day of release.

Never had a problem with it.

I also own 3 more xbox 360's, in the house.

And all work fine :)

I wouldn't think so. All versions use the same components, don't they?

I think there's a small difference between the disc drives used on the regular system vs the elite system. I've heard that the elite runs a lot quieter compared to the others. Also check this site out for more info on the updates to the 360's motherboard: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2008/12/xbox-360-jasper-whats-changed.ars

the site talks about the jasper motherboard on the arcade ver. of the 360 - which lacks a hdd i believe. if you're planning on hunting for a jasper elite there's another thread on gamespot that's been dedicated to it: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26712967
