I really can't think of any better way to get people to keep buying games than to turn the whole Xbox 360 into an MMORPG-lite. True, most of us core gamers care much more about the games than some arbitrary "gamerscore", but there have to be legions of people who buy games just to get more achievements.

What do you think of the gamerscore/achievement system?

the xbox was the worse business decission MS has made.

MS gaming division has yet to make a dime.

but gamerscore was a good call. added replay value.

I think it greatly extends the life of a game, because it gives you incentive to complete everything. I love it, I've played through Gears 5 times, and in Halo 3 I've completed more than 20 campaign missions. Almost done finishing it twice on Legendary, one co-op, one by myself.

Allow me to rephrase: Achievements was one of the few really good business decisions MS's gaming division has made. :)

I have to agree, I actually enjoy getting achievements but I wouldn't ever buy a game just for its achievements, however there are so many people out there who do that stuff just to raise their gamerscore, I think that could be one of the reasons the attach rate is so high.

That (which should be in its own thread) is pretty much dead on, current analsyt predictions put their total loss by ehd of this gen at between 10-15billion US. So its no wonder speculation of no 3rd unit is floating round, especially now Bungie and Bizzare have left in mysterious ways.

it is kinda weird. this is about 3 years from the time a new system shoould be out...thats about when rumors of the new boxes start up.

other than that, all the first party companies are starting to leave...

just speculation but maybe MS is going to support games for windows over consoles next time?

I agree, achievements are really fun to get and sometimes challenging. It makes me wanting to keep playing some games and buy other games. Microsoft's idea of achievements was genius.

Yeah if its between the same game on the 360 and PS3 or whatever other console, the achievments always win.

Achievements are one of the best things about the xbox 360. while yes, game quality is first and foremost, i believe it adds a sense of accomplishment for a game, mainly in single player. Before, you tell your friends "oh i beat halo on legendary" and there was no way to tell, now its just a few button presses away.
