probably because the game will be no different to the first game and people will complain about it being a rehash. People will buy it regardless and activision knows it. Activision wants to minimize criticism for the little effort they have done in re-skinning cod 4.
The game is a COD 4 Expansion Pack...I'm telling you, If you couldn't tell from the trailers, then you'll know when you buy the game. Also is'nt it strange that they canceled the beta ? REHASH !

You are partly right. But I am a rabid fan of the Call of Duty series, especially Infinity Ward's versions, so I have to say you are also partly wrong. MW2 will be about taking the things that worked great about MW and adding some mind blowing stuff. There's no sense in messing with the great fire-fight formula that they have at the core of the game. Why would they? It's that part that everyone is expecting to be the same, or else they wouldn't buy it. What you are saying essentially is that a game like Gears of War should be made into a RPG just so it won't be the same 3rd person cover shooter formula that it always is. Absurd.probably because the game will be no different to the first game and people will complain about it being a rehash. People will buy it regardless and activision knows it. Activision wants to minimize criticism for the little effort they have done in re-skinning cod 4.

they said most likely, but they never said "yes we will have a beta" it was still up for debate at the time

They didn't cancel anything. There was never going to be a public beta. They've been saying from the beginning that they'd do one if they felt it was necessary, but they never once said there was going to be one.
And ya know, I used to think that it was just going to be a mere expansion pack, but if you really take a deep look at the trailers and the gameplay footage, its going to be quite an improvement. There's destructible environments now, the graphics look even better, andthe customizable killstreaks are a genius idea(when you think about it, it'll really change online multiplayer). Its really shaping up to bea cool game. There's a reason its going to be called MW2, sure, but the improvements definitely look worthy of a full sequel when you consider there'll be a new campaign, a new co-op gamemode, and all-new multiplayer levels ON TOP of the improvements I've mentioned already.
For that sole reason Gamespot might keep it from a 10.probably because the game will be no different to the first game and people will complain about it being a rehash. It's funny how two overrated devs (Infinity Ward and Epic) think they don't have to release betas. Do these retards know what the point of a beta is?
I wasn't getting Modern Rehash 2 to begin with, but this news has put a stop to any change of heart.
Even Bungie, knowing they would make a boatload of money off of Halo, released a beta for Halo 2 and Halo 3. Even Blizzard has a beta for StarCraft II, a game that will probably sell a trillion copies because it's that big, and yet you have these two overrated developers taking advantage of an ignorant, console fanbase.
No beta, no buy. I'm not going to wait 5 months to have a playable game.
I just have this strange feeling that this game will turn out like Gears Of War 2(Rehashed and Noob-friendly multiplayer) I'm optimistic about the game, but I'm definately gonna rent it first.

I'm pretty in-tune with the latest gaming news. No beta was ever announced. Many just misinterpreted comments that were made on the NeoGaf forums by an Infinity Ward employee. If you can find a direct quote that proves me wrong, feel free.

I'm pretty sure they do. They are professional game developers. The question is: Do you?
I've gotta ask, though - how many games have you bought never had a beta? Unless you've only got a few games, the answer is probably 'a majority'.
People are simply overreacting, trying to make it sound like public betas are so ridiculously important when they're not. Infinity Ward has experience with this game engine already, I'm pretty sure they'd be quite confident of what they can and cant pull off at this point. They've had Modern Warfare 1 up and running online for the past two years. They'd have learned a thing or two over that time. And its not like Modern Warfare 1 ever had any deal-breaker bugs or glitches or anything in the first place.
Thats ok, though. You said you've already made up your mind that you're not buying the game, so I guess I shouldn't expect you to be unbiased and reasonable in your opinions anyway.
Aww. Don't get to play it early, but I don't expect it to have problems they want to reveal early through beta. =-)

COD4 was so awsome, a "re-skinning" of it by IW will be a much better product than other games that some devlepors spend years putting together. So what's your point. Stop being a hater.
