I'm new to XBL so I just wanted to know how do ranked matches affect you and how do you increase and decrease your reputation. Thanks.

You gain/lose rep if people leave player reviews about you. So no, it doesn't have to do with ranked, it could be anything.

also worth noting, most games have a crappy ranked community. they may kick you if your rank is too low. (r6v, gears) play player matches unless you care for achievements.
