Well, I sorta' liked the ending.

But there are some unanswered questions.

Why did my wife die? What was their reasoning of coming out and killing me?

But so, so horrible. John Marston is easily one of my favorite video game characters of all time.

I really didn't see him dieing considering you free roam after the game.

Anyway, what did you think about it?

Anything you're confused about? Hmm?

Especially there are some problems with the story, as of stranger quest I completely change. *Half of it was done with John* then I come back as Jack, and they have a normal conversation as if it had been Jack from the start. Personally, I think they should've kept John alive. I mean he had loads of potential.

I think the agents wanted to kill you because they wanted someone else to do all thier work and they could just finish you off last.

oh and im kinda curious to see if there will be any DLC we could see more about jack. :)

Yeah, i'm like... Am I playing as Jack now? Can't be... No way, then I did the Remember my family or something mission (Final mission basically) And yeah... Yeah, ending could've been better... And to get rid of such a legendary character.. It was just... Blah, I think a bad move. But we'll see what they do with it.

People keep complaining about how John died, but it was realistic. If they had done a cliche,ride-off-into-the-sunset-happy-ending,I would have been pissed.Plus the mission where Jack gets revenge was badass(especially if you're wearing The Legend of the West outfit).

But it was pretty obvious from the beginning that the agents were just using John for their dirty work, and they were planning on finishing him off anyways once he was done.Overall, the ending was very good, and I'm glad they did it that way.

Your wife probably died of disease or some other old timey common death cause. And Ross came after you because, he needs a reason for his job. They'll always find someone to hunt, or they won't have a job(plus he's a jackass) And John was trying to save his son from the outlaw life by sacrificing himself, because he knew Ross would hunt him and his family til he was dead.

The stranger quest where you deliver drugs and get the payment in chuparosa (cannot remember the name) was half-completed with john and then completed with jack and the man said "your father was a great man" or something similar. Otherwise, i think jack is a decent shoe-filler for john hope he is in a sequel also just does not die and his son replace him also.

I liked the ending. I sort of expected it to be honest, from the second i got to the Marston ranch and everything was too nice and relaxed. Of course, i don't like Jack nearly as much as John (his voice still sounds like he's a teen) but i thought it ended well, in true western style (the end showdown in 'the last enemy to be destroyed' reminded me of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid)

As for the guy in 'I Know You', i got the impression he was the Devil. He brought up times when John had killed innocent people and was quite cruel about it. Also, he mentions he is an accountant of sorts. An accountant of souls most likely....ahem. Plus bullets went right through him.Anyways that's what i thought.

Well they could've just killed everyone. For example, they capture them all. Bonnie dies, jack gets taken away and his wife gets killed and ... I'm not sure... But I really wish they would've kept John for a sequel.

I think he represents John's Guilt of his past en devours and it his way of coping with it. Anyway as far as the ending goes....I loved it. Yea jack is a pansy and I don't like him either but who cares whether your using Jack or John in free roam the game is over and if you've done everything that there is possible to do in the game then why would you wanna play in free roam single player anyway? Either replay the story or go play online. I don't understand why people think the ending is bad. I think they couldn't of ended it any better. Besides Rockstar rarely ever reuses the same character in their Open World games. I'm sure they will come up with an even better character then John Marston but I did like him a lot.

Even then I couldn't bring myself to like him because through out the entire game you play John and then out of nowhere his kid comes in and steals the show. You can't really feel for a character that doesn't really have much to do with the entire story until the end.

I thought the ending was good - at least it was unpredictable. Yeah, Ross was probably planning to kill off the entire gang, including John, all along. He just used Marston to kill Williamson, Escuala and Dutch for him then he killed Marston. Ross was a scumbag anyway and he had plenty of justification considering Marston's checkered past. It's believable that grown up Jack could turn out to be badass considering he is a Marston. I hope they continue with Jack's story in expansions but I doubt they could bring him back for a sequel since it was already 1914 by the time he revenged his old man and killed Ross, the wild west was almost tamed by then. Yeah, Jack's mom probably could have died from disease, maybe they'll explain her death and what happened with the ranch in expansions.

I Beat the game not to long ago and it may sound bad but it was a depressing ending, i would have loved to see a sequel with john in it, John was easily one of the best characters to grace a game in a very long time, which makes the ending even more sad, oh well im gonna play thro the story again lol

1st off I have to, thats what she said.

2nd a ending coming out of nowhere is called a surprise ending, and they are a good thing. We don't play games to no the ending from the beginning.

3rd Junior lives in the West qnd his whole family was killed, you'd get tough fasr too.

Know if I could change anything I would have John take out the Agent guy and after John dies you see the Agent curse him for mortallly wounding him

i think john was one of my most loved characters from a game, on the last mission when hes stood behind the barn door before he pushes it through and gets killed.

I remember thinking to myself JOHN NOOOOOO ! DONT DO IT! as soon as i knew he was going to die a little piece of me died inside. Jack will never sufficiently be able to fill his fathers shoes.

You pretty much summed it up. That's the only way the game could've ended without completely changing John's character. Everything he did in this game was for his family, it would've taken a huge shift on his part to bring his wife and especially his son back to the life he worked so hard to take and keep them away from.

i have literally just finished the game half an hour ago and i have to say im kinda shocked by the ending,

i put a lot of time into the single player, more time than i have put into any single player game in a long time, and that is mainly because i liked the character and his story so much,

so it was a bit of a shock to see him die at the end, and playing as jack, well it just isnt the same, i still have a lot of stuff to do in order to get 100% complete and i was really looking forward to doing it after the story was over, now im not even sure i want to go back and play single player more,

having said that, i dont think it would have worked ending it any other way, john spent the whole game protecting his family, its fitting that he should die protecting them as well

The ending was amazing, playing as jack was so cool mainly due to the fact while roaming around the area, your going to areas you went with as john and you spent countless hours playing as john and to know he is buried 10 feet in the ground makes it so surreal and emotional.

I guess people just hate strong, emothional, unahppy endings. For me I found it to be one of the greatest endings to a video game ive played, it just felt.. right.

I was quite happy with the ending...What I didn't like was most of the last chapter was boring as hell...I wanted some massive shootouts and epic battles...Instead I got to "Take ma boy huntin" and "Round up some cattle and put em out to pasture" and "Lasso some horses and break em in"...Seriously I just wanted it to end...One of the most boring finishes to a game I have ever played.

I felt like the "i know you" stranger was some kind of death omen early on, and had a feelin john was going to die. i just didnt know how they would make it so you could continue playing. Personally all the homefront missions i thought were boring and tedious to play through, but think the last stand mission was great. As for a sequel, id actually like to see a prequel and still play as john but running Around with his old gang or "family" as he considered them

I just finished it a few hours ago. I loved the ending. Very powerful stuff. Has to be one of the best endings I've seen in a videogame. I didn't think John would die. Even when he opened the doors and faced all those soldiers, I still thought he might make it. To see him get taken out like that, then see his family find his body... Wow. Very powerful and mature ending, brilliantly set-up by the family missions that came just before it. Amazing end to an amazing game.

Actually, she most likely died of old age. It was so weird that there were many elderly people in the game because people rarely lived over 30 in that time.

The I know You guy is open to interpretation. Some people think it's God or the Devil but it may also be John's conscience. I believe there's a cutscene where he says something like this is a good spot to rest (foreshadowing John's resting place?) I think he was some sort of forebodeing omnicient presence that was foreshadowing the future. The ending can be explained by the way Dutch falls to his death after he tells you something like they won't let you escape blah blah. And then Agent Ross uses your gun to put a bullet in his head saying it'll look better for the papers. The agents weren't going to let you walk away like that since you are technically a part of that gang. If you get a newspaper later on you can read about how Agent Ross is a hero and he killed John Marston as well as the other gang members. It was a harsh ending. In a way I liked it because John went out in a blaze of glory, guns still firing, very badass of him. I wish he didn't have to die though he was one of my favorite characters too and the son just doesn't sound mature enough to be an outlaw in the old west. The wife dies 3 years after John. They never explain why and I think it's better left that way. Maybe she died of a broken heart? Maybe some disease? Keep in mind back then in the old west life expectancy was not very high. Use your imagination.

I'm agreeing with this too.

It's a twist for the story and this is what I call a Rockstar ending. The Agents already wanted John dead from the very moment he stepped into Blackwater but only John can get close to his former gang members without being shot dead within seconds. Wished i could've killed Ross in a better way than just a duel. :/

When John looked thru the doors, and sees about 3, i was ready to take them all down but when he opened, MAN was i shocked. Before i tried, i knew John's road ends there.

Jack, for a start can get uneasy since the time spent with John and his character building is so much that a sudden change will upset the player (Maybe that's what R* wanted us to feel?) But as time goes by, i'm already fine playing as Jack. I still miss John but Jack isnt so bad once you spent some time with him

I hate when he shouts "WORK YOU DAMN NAG!" while you're riding a horse. John was definitely a better character. I'm just glad I didn't have loads left to do once I'd finished the story. I was at about 99% completion when the story ended.

The ending was amazing...Melpoe

Basically this... I feel bad for the people who didnt like it, as they dont seem to really "Get it".

The whole game is about how the Old Savage West is a thing of the past, being stamped out and reformed. John is the representation of that, a vigilante, ruthless, independant. His kind couldnt live in the New Civilized Future, he was doomed to die from the start.

I also feel bad that somehow i missed the "I know who you are" missions :( :(

The reason the ending felt so great and controversial for a lot of people is because John was such a great character and you grow a bond with him in a way, and some people just want to refuse letting him die, and hell i hated seeing him die, it was bad, but thats what makes it so good, because you know that is what would have probably really happened, and it is a shocker, not another cliche

As Dutch said *SPOILER* before he jumps to his death*SPOILER*, (something like this) "even if you kill me, they (the law) will always find another monster to hunt down." that monster was John Marston. Is Jack next?

I agree with the M rating for this game. Because after reading some of the responses here. I realized those who get this game at an early age will not truly understand the deeper themes of this game. :(

I've already gotten John killed, am I to understand that is not really the end and I have missions left to do with Jack, other than the stranger missions?

Not currently, but there might be some DLC coming up that gives us some more single player missions.
