I came across some interesting comparisons on this board. One of which was Forza 2 and Dirt, and another was Skate and Tony Hawk's Proving ground. Another example would be like comparing Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon to Halo or UT, or NBA 2K7 to NBA Street Homecourt. The point is you can't compare simulations to arcade games. After thinking about these comparisons I decided to make a thread about realistic vs. unrealistic games. So which do you prefer and why?

Both.

But nearly every realistic simulation is on PC - minus Forza on 360.

I mean FPS simulations like AmrA, hardcore racing sims like Live For Speed, Flight Sims, Gunship Sims, Ship Sims, Sub Sims, War Sims (close combat) ect. ect. You get my vibe.

Actaully yea only Forza 2 is technically realistic.

Oh, where was I?

I like both :P

That's not really the point. I just made this thread in response to all the "apples and oranges" comparisons..

I would perfer a balance of the 2.

I would buy Forza 2 for the realism, the cars, the modding, etc. but I would also buy and do crazy drifts in NFS.

Realisitic what? Grapx/gameplay? Your ques is too general and it also depends on the game. I dont mind either or.

Example; I love to play a realistic tennis game, but then id love to play an unrealistic one too where say the ball impales the oppoent if you hit it too fast:?

I think we'll all agree though that realsitic grapx is a must:)

Realistic of course, the reason is pretty obvious. People that play unrealistic games are just playing it for fun and/or for the points I think.

Sometimes it's hard to choose which path to follow, it's best to walk between them.

What exactly do you play games for, now? Is it a mandatory chore for you?

Anyways, I like a mix of both. If I get bored with one I can switch over and play the other for awhile.

depends on the game....

i mean unrealistic games like arcade games are fun to play as long as there over the top enough

but also if u play simulation games of course u want them to be realistic

but then again to real is sometimes bad...

shooters-unrealistic

racing-realistic (need for speed gets old)

rpg- unrealistic...your usingspells and whatnotfor christ sake

both, unrealistic games we've been playing for so long because they're designed as games, but realistic Is just as appealing because they're taking games to a new level.

Both are good if done correctly.

I like unrealistic games with realistic features. Like a run-and gun game with realistic physics and AI. And things like reloading and weapons overheating is also good to have. But I'm getting tired of having to carry only two weapons at a time. It's realistic but I don't see why EVERY shooter has to have it now.

I hate simulators or really slow paced games like Ghost recon.

the truth is that realistic games dont exist on Consoles at all, simply because of the low demand for them, and the controler simplyt doesnt have the amount of keys neccesary to play all these games.

If Ghost Recon, or Rainbow Six is the most realistic games you have played....I would recomend trying out Operation Flashpoint, Armed Assault, or Red Orchestra, which are true military sims, and far far more realistic and unforginving....they also probably have the longest learning curve of almost every shooter out their.

Even semi-realistic games like Forza 2 are outdone in realism easily by PC racers such as GTR2.

I think both have their place. It depends on my mood. Realistic graphics are cool but I think you can achieve a lot by having amazing artwork, realistic or not.

Bingo. If the game is good I'll play it, realistic or not. The factor that matters more to me than realism is internal logic, meaning that what you can do and what happens in the game makes sense within the context of the game. The first example that jumps to mind is in The Darkness whenever you use a pay phone. Jackie doesn't need change to use it and only dials four numbers, which is trivial at best but a decent example nonetheless.
