I'm really thinking of getting a 360 when they release the new jasper units in the Fall, but I'm a bit worried about the longevity

of the console compared to PS3. I do like the games on the 360 more, and also believe they for the most part look better than most of the same PS3 games released. I'm worried about the life span of the 360 though because developers are now talking about cutting back game content due to storage issues when compared to PS3's blue-ray. Also, how is Far Cry 2 going to look when compared side by side with PS3 and its greater amount of processors?

Will Microsoft give strong support for a few more years to come? And will the PS3 games start to really overtake the 360 in looks, because it sounds like it may slowly be heading that way. But overall, I think the 360 game offerings are alot better than PS3, and its a better console for what your paying, I kinda also wish Xbox had Wifi. These are my worries though.

Get the 360, it will last a long time, then if it does get RROD... it is free to send in and free to fix.

Both are great consoles, really you will end up paying the same amount as the other one when you factor in accessories. However go with the 360 since you seem to prefer the games avaiable for it. Also don't worry about the 360's lifespan there's still a long ways to go. Make sure you get a warranty and enjoy.

i just got myself a 360 five days ago and i honestly don't worry about longetivity. today it just isn't like it has been last generation when the ps2 was so dominant and the xbox didn't have any chance (neither did the gamecube). i really don't think that ms will drop the 360 as soon as they did with the original xbox because they now have an equal race with the ps3. if you have the oppurtunity, get both, a 360 and a ps3. if you have to decide between those two for now, get a 360 because it is the cheaper choice and has and equivalent if not better games library.

As long as you keep it in a well ventilated area and take good care of it, you'll be fine. I had mine since launch and it lasted me until last week. It had a really long run and im sure that once i get it back from repairs, it;ll last even longer since it'll be more up to date with newer chipsets.

the only thing you really need to worry about is not letting it overheat. it's a great console that should last you for a very long time. I've only had mine for about half a year now, but I know people who have had there's for awhile now, and they have had their first console since then.

Also, how is Far Cry 2 going to look when compared side by side with PS3 and its greater amount of processors?

WorldMusc_basic

The 360's Xenos GPU is more powerful than the PS3's RSX. That is to say, the 360's graphics card is more powerful than the PS3's. The 360 also has more memory. The only place the PS3 outshines the 360 is in it's processor.

Now, I may be wrong, but unless a game is designed SPECIFICALLY with the PS3 in mind, a game will not take advantage of the PS3's processor. Hence why multiplatform games often look better on 360. Far Cry 2 is multiplatform, so I would put my money on the 360 version of the game looking better.

:D

I would too. Especially since the 360 is the leading platform for Far Cry 2. Most of gameplay videos shown at E3 were from the 360 version.

Yeah that makes up my mind. I could care less about something like Killzone 2, when obviously Far Cry 2 will probably be the greatest shooter ever considering Far Cry 1's many accolades. And considering it will be better on 360 that'll be the selling point for the console for me.

Thanks Guys! And castle crashers/masseffect/viva pinata won't hurt either.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. LET'S GO HOME, BOYS. :D

And I didn't even have to mention Xbox Live and how it trumps PSN. Take it from me, I've had both consoles. :P

Last i heard farcry 2 looked better and ran smoother on the 360 already. I wouldnt worry about longevity. It will be on the market and supported jsut as long as the PS3 is, because of the install base it has, developers are not going to miss a chance to capitalize on that. And developers arent talking about cutting back content, they are talking about compression (or rather john carmack is) with regards to audio and textures, if forced to use single disc options, however as long as multi disc is possible, that won't be a huge issue.

In the end, i'd say wait for the price drop and then take the plunge, as you won't be disappointed.

Great system, great games it's a good price it's a good buy in my books, and don't worry about it's longetivity I heard lot's of people getting rrod but everyone i know that has a 360 hasnt gotten it and neither have I plus my little brother droped my 360 twice and my mother actually THREW my 360 across the room and landed on the floor and the front of it busted off and it went back in place and it worked perfectly fine after being dropped 3 times except that my halo disk was scratched so hard campaign didnt work but other then that yeah its pretty durable and it lasts and worth the money.
