Now, i'm not business major, but why the hell would they release the 360 Elite??  I can't see any good reason for this at all.

First, This divides your fanbase even more.  Many fans would have loved to have had this right from the start, but now they will either have to buy the 120Gig HD or just stick with their Premium.

Also, Microsoft has just started to go into the black on their 360s (as in they make money on each one sold).  So with this release, wouldn't they start losing on each Elite 360 sold?  How is this suppose to have them make money?

The Elite doesn't even have enough additional features.  Maybe if they added an internal cooler, wifi, and took off some of that HD so it's more affordable, i might buy it instead of a premium.  But no, they throw in 100 extra gigs and some other feature that most people won't bother with and decide to call it an "Elite."
Hell.

Now, i really have been wanting to buy a premium for a while and have been waiting for a price drop, but now with the Elite released, i doubt we'll see one until next year.  Nearly two and a half ****ing years!  Who else is angry about this?

I dont understand what the problem is. If you want the elite get the elite. If you want the pro get the pro. Its just another option.

You are also forgetting about HDMI support. For those of us who have HD DVD players thats a big deal.

Don't wait for a price drop.  Thats your problem.  You never know when anything gets a price cut.

Your first sentence explains why this post is wrong, people want 120 gigs and Hdmi so they will buy the elite.

Firstly they have been making money off 360s since December (even before) and at that time is was an estimated $60-$70 per console. It may have been less then that, but they were making profit. Now that almost 6 months have passed they are probably making more. The Elite is probably not losing them much money most likely.

A little fyi, it was meant for new adopters of the 360 but people who already have one can buy it for the hdmi or bigger harddrive. I dont think it really divides the fanbase considering its all the same console its still a 360 just with a bigger HD and HDMI

i've must have read over 1000 posts regarding the same issue..listen, i knew of the elite, and i personally prefered the premium...it's just another option depending on your budget and whether or not you have that damn HD DVD drive or an HDTV period.... I'm a business major aswell....remember "what sales in this world is benefits"  having more features=more benefits=more consumers its' a vicious circle my friend

Microsoft is a corporation. Corporations need to make money. They make money through releasing products and services that can be bought. Its economics.

Have you seen the cost of the stand alone 120 gig drive for the 360?  They want $180, more than twice what it should cost.  They are not losing money on this, or the Elite.  I was considering trading in my launch unit for an elite, just for the sake of fear of bricking.  Only problem is I don't know if the Elite is any better.  I have an HDMI on my TV, so it would be sweet to see the difference, but I'm still on the fence.  Lately MS has me a little peeved with all the fees for DLC.
