Recent 2007 holiday 360 bundle owners, which dvd drive is in your machine?

I need to know, all those people who just bought their 360s in the last 3 months, which dvd drive do you have? Here's a web site you can use as reference:

From the above web site, the Hitachi is the loudest and the Benq is the quietest. For those who just bought the holiday bundle, specify which bundle you bought(arcade, premium or elite) and which dvd drive is in there. The premium bundle I got a few weeks ago had the Hitachi one(too loud for my taste).

Yeah, I jumped over to that site, and although I didn't find anything saying which is the quietest or loudest, you just got me thinking if maybe they put different drives in the different versions. I'm getting the elite system with the 2 bundled games for Christmas, I really hope it has the benq drive. Do you think the drive you get depends on the level of system: elite, premium etc.?

its as loud as the launch consoles and I know beacuse I had a premium that died on me.

its even more annoying when youre playing late at night and the console is louder than the in game action

maybe it also matters where it is manufactured from, china=hitachi, anywhere else= benqwii60_lukatoll

RROD aside, I really want a 360 now but the loud dvd drive is a big turn off. I could potentially keep purchasing and returning 360s if I get the loud dvd drive, but I don't feel comfortable doing that. As for the loudness, let me tell you my experience while I played GH2 on the loud 360.

I was happily playing GH2, the music was coming out loud and clear from my 2.1 Klipsch|THX speakers but at the same time, you hear that constant buzzing, wind tunnel sound coming from the 360. At first, it's tolerable, after 30 min, it starts getting on your nerve. 1+ hour later, you really start to hate it and when I turn off everything, my ear which is closest to the 360 is emitting a slight buzzing noise. I tried to get use to that noise for 2 days but to no avail, I know from this point I had to return the machine.

I believe the noise might not be an issue if you somehow put the 360 in a cabinet which is closed from the front but open at the back(for air circulation), unfortunately not many people have this setup. I sometime wished I could magically burry a hole in the ground, place the 360 there and keep playing.

And if you do that, it'll overheat and give you a rrod. Hah! The 360 system never wants to see us happy apparently.

I got a premium w/ 2 free games manufactured on 9/9/07 lot #737 team FODOU that has the benq drive2up2down

You got lucky, the one I bought was manufactured early September 07, lot # 0735 but had the hitachi drive. I wished it came with the benq one, I could be playing some Forza 2 right now in beautiful HD.
