I want to buy a 360 since the price dropped again but I want to know how common is the red ring of death problem is. A friend of mine just had his break down and if I get one will it have the same problem?

Well i was unfortunate enough to experience the ROD first hand :(. My advice to you is to get a store warranty so you can exchange the xbox the day it breaks. I was not aware of the ROD when i purchased my xbox and i wasn't asked to buy a warranty at the PX where i bought mine from so when mine breaks im xboxless for a month untill it returns from repairs.

Well, mine just died last night, and its considerably shaken my faith in Microsoft, but at the very least, if you do get a defective system signified by the 3 red lights, they will repair it cost free. So they're doing something right. I'd still reccommend getting a 360 if you're highly interested in it. Just make sure you keep up with the warranty.

yeah i really can't wait any longer lol. i gotta "finish" gears before skate comes out lol! then there's assassin's creed, mass effect.... so so much more.... but hey, if my 360 drops dead [touch wood] after the 65nm comes out, i can get it replaced by M$ [or at least it should work like that... otherwise it'll just cost M$ more to keep repairing the 90nm ]

Well, the reason ROD comes is because it overheats, and there are ways to prevent that, since the 360 heats so much it's good to have the power brick on an open area, because it heats up fast and that can cause ROD (but not often so don't freak out). So if you keep it on your table instead of under it you will be doing something to prevent it, there are probably some other things too.

It's the luck of the draw I would say as far as the likely hood of you getting them.

I purchased my core on 12/18/05 and it just died two weeks ago.

I sent it off to get repaired, free of charge from microsoft.

Remember there is a reason why they extended the warranty to three years..........;)

I've personally never had the ROD and don't plan on getting them:D. Personally i think that most people give themselves the ROD instead of the 360 picking it up by itself. That's just my opinion.
