This bunch of images are from a time long past... hopefully they will get some of you as nostalgic as they have gotten me.
Before HALO was a household name, there were these little games called Tribes and Tribes 2. To me atleast they were an introduction to large scale multiplayer battles with well balanced vehicular combat. They were quite popular at their time and Tribes2 brought in alot of the players that (like myself) didnt get into tribes the 1st time around. What you see above are the images of Bungie's 'Tribes 2 killer' for the Mac and later confirmed for the PC. They promised massive maps and the best vehicle combat aswell as large scale team vs team battles of CTF and such... this was well before xbox launched yet MS had its sights on this game very early into development.
I always thought about how different the series would have turned out and what direction it would have taken if this early build didn't get scrapped and rebuilt from the ground up for MS's home console. Would the 360 be the success that it is now? Or rather, would there even be a 360, or even LIVE for that matter? Would this game have slipped through the cracks of PC gaming as another 'me too' title? One can only wonder.
In essense we have the Tribes titles to thank for inspiring the creation of the giant that is HALO as we know it and the success of MS's entry into the home console market. :) If anyone knows more about tribes 1 history since i wasnt exposed to it in its prime please feel free to post a lil something.
