Okay, phew long time since I've been on
I've found myself in a bit of an issue
My 360 disc drive is in need of replacement
I understand entirely how, but there are 3 kinds of drive I've been suggested
samsung ts-h943a benq vad6038 hitachi gdr-3120L

Now I know which one my 360 has but it happens to be the most expensive one, does it matter which one you get?

Or are they all compatible in all xbox's?

Now mine doesn't have a warranty, that sounds a great idea, but I haven't a clue on how to sort it
Do I just email them or something? (I'm guessing it'll be something simple)

You can call Microsoft and ask them if those are compatible.

Here's the Service Number and Site (IF you don't trust the number I gave).

Number:

  • Toll free: (800) 4MY-XBOX
  • Direct dial: (425) 635-7180

While you could call them and ask, I highly doubt they will answer your question. To change the disk drive yourself you would have to open the case, which breaks any warranty on the console, regardless of if it has expired. If you replace the drive with something the MS rep advised you would work, and then it fails, it would open them up to a claim its their fault.

In short MS are unlikely to tell you how to repair/replace the drive yourself.

I don't know the full details on swapping a driver over, but I'm pretty sure that the model of the drive is important to the configuration of each console - if you change the drives to another make/model it detects something is wrong. That may be wrong, but worth checking during your online searches for answers
