I'm about to sign up for Xlive Gold. What do I need to do to gain stars from my current three? How do I avoid losing them?

The stars are pretty pointless. Even people will lots of bad reviews still get five stars. I really don't know how they work, but as they are, the stars serve no function.

I guess microsoft should have looked into this more cuz it should allow us to seperate the bad live members from the good with these stars but looks like everybody is 5 stars

If you lose any game, you lose a star, once you get to 0, you are banned from live, FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better practise before you get online in heavy compitition.

Have someone mark you as a preferred player is the fastest way to increase your star rating, but just playing a bunch of multiplayer games will get you 5 stars without anyone rating you.

Bad rep does in theory reduce your stars, but once you've been online a while it would take a huge amount of bad rep to make you fall below 5 stars. In short once you get 5 stars you will never drop back down regardless of how badly you play with others.

Having a rep less than 5 stars usually just shows you are a new gamertag, or only just started playing online
