Well, it died in the sense that it's so drastically left its roots that it doesn't even feel like it belongs in the series. Sure it has all the characters, and they have zombie-like dudes to gun down, but this series has seemingly shifted...shiFFFFFFted.....from survival horror to mediocre shooter. RE4 and RE5 don't really fit the survival horror build so well. Sure the series has always had some of its scares come out of poor controls, but in this generation Capcom could have stuck a bit closer to the original formula and improved on it without turning it into a half-way horror, half-way shooter, game.

I might be alone in thinking that the series has figuratively died at this point, but I really hope they reconsider at least going full on survival horror or full on shooter, and not somewhere in between. Let's face it -- if RE5 had controls more in line with modern shooters, and partner AI that didn't have the IQ of a rock, it would have been far more deserving of Brad's 5/5.

EDIT: Forgive me if I don't respond to any posts for the next 8-12 hours as I am about to go to bed and have the day off tomorrow :D

From what I've heard the AI is alright. Though I loved the older games in the series I haven't played 4, and 5 just came out. I think I might buy 5 because I love Co-op. From what I've seen it is reviewing well and getting some good scores.

I'm glad that Capcom decided to move away from the "tank" controls and fixed cameras. Also co-op is an excellent addition to the series. I'm still deciding if I want to pick up my pre-order today or just wait for something else.

I'm playing through the game at this very moment.... well I'm typing at this very moment, but by the time you read this, I'll be in front of my TV enjoying more of RE5.

I'm passing on this one for a couple reasons. First, you're baby-sitting the ENTIRE game. Secondly, I'm not big on the controls. And, Third, this DLC crap has put poo in my wheaties.

It seems like the Resident Evil series has shifted more towards casual gamers. I didn't enjoy the RE5 demo and probably won't pick it up.

The new RE's have more survival and less horror.

Resident Evil 5 is NOT a survival horror game! Yes, in the past Resident Evil was creddited for being one of the most highly acclaimed SHG's around but now it more of an action game. I can see why fans would be upset but it 2009 and games are evolving. If capcom would have stuck to the how the old resident evil games played then they would have flawed because there would have beena "seen that, done that" aspect to the game. Resident Evil is a gerat game especially in co-op :P

I completely agree with you. It is kind of nice to see Capcom change things up a bit in Resident Evil. Resident Evil 1-3 will always be memorable because of the eerie atmosphere it presented. I remember more scary moments in those games on the Playstation than anything other game. In the last 2 Resident Evil games, Capcom focused more on the intense action. I like the change. It keeps the series fresh. I have been a fan of Resident Evil since I played the first game on PC. I'll always remember what a great game the first one was; and also the second and third. Resident Evil did update the game and change a lot of things about it (no more slow moving zombies from Umbrella, no need for ink ribbons to save, no item crates or safe rooms, no puzzle solving, no survival horror, updated graphics, more action, over the shoulder view). However, Capcom only made very slight improvement for controls. I'm not bashing the controls, but this is a 2009 Capcom shooter game. If Capcom changed so much about the series, shouldn't the controls be updated too? It just doesn't feel right; you can't simply walk back and shoot or pause the game to bring up a menu to use a herb or something. Couldn't they have atleast allowed an optional hot key to use a herb if there is no way you can access your inventory without fear of dying? I'm not saying the controls suck. The controls are ok. They aren't awful, but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement.

RE4 and RE5 are different games yeah i totally agree. Resident evil 2 and Resident evil 3: Nemesis are my 2 favourite games ever released.. and so the differences are noticable.

Agreed. Games evolve. Gamers, apparently not.

My gripe with it is it's not even RE anymore. Where are the zombies? It's like Halo going to the year 2009 to fight terrorists.. They should have at LEAST kept zombies in.

I understand. A lot of people would be happier if this just were another zombie game not having the RE name on it.
