Sorry if this has been asked before, but I am curious to know. I bought a 360 at launch along with a 2 yr warranty, can I exchange the premium for an elite but pay the difference?

I don't know for sure, but I highly doubt it. The warranty was probably just for hardware failure, but that is just my guess.

Did you get the warranty at Best Buy? If you did, then the answer is "yes".

I exchanged my Core for the Premium when it broke.

But I do think it has to be broken.

Also if you want, you can file a claim, and then they will send you a gift card.

It's ridiculous if you can. You bought it as an early adopter, therefore, there's a risk that something might be "added" in the coming years. You take the hit. Deal with it. Your warranty should only cover your system. It's not like you were renting it. I'm tired of everyone thinking that Microsoft, or whoever, owes them something when things are less than perfect. It's not like they released the new SKU two months after launch. It's been a year and a half. Get over it.

If you think about it, only a year and a half for a better console isn't long at all, and it means they were probably working on 'elite' consoles when they put the other two on the market.

And everyone thought it was a waste for me to wait.  I've got friends with 360's... if I want to play, I go to their house.  I'll wait for the 'elite' console, and maybe even a price drop.

If by better console you mean bigger harddrive and different paintjob, then sure, better console. HDMI is overrated, especially when things are done just as well with VGA.

I do not believe anyone is saying they believe microsoft owes them anything... I think as an "early adopter" you should be praised. Why should microsoft say "Well... It's your fault for buying it in the first place"... When the people who bought it at first where the ones who kept the system alive?

Without the early adopters, and the people who stayed faithful, their would be no 360 elite... Or anye 360 for that matter.

People just want to be able to get the new Elite system, and not have to poor in $480+ for it because the original didn't have HDMI or a bigger hard drive. If Microsoft would have said at the beginning "In a years time we will be putting HDMI and a bigger hard drive on a different color system"... Then I may understand the argument that it's their fault... But you can't blame someone for buying a system and for not waiting a year and a half... When they had no idea of anything happening.

Microsoft owes no one anything... But they should owe the people that are faithful some gratitude.

And anyways, if people really want the elite... They can just sell it to friends or on like ebay or something for around $250 and just pay around the same price as the hard drive for the new system.

I could care less about your opinion. I was asking if I could get more bang for my buck, not if it was fair. I bought from best buy for a reason, thus I ask for an answer on whether or not I would recieve a chance to exchange for a different deal. Don't change the topic of the thread just becasue you have an ignorant opinion.

I work for a Best Buy store in PA, so I know what I am talking about.

When a person buys a gaming console, then we are to tell them that if they purchase a warranty and a new model of the console comes out within that time period, then you can exchange it.

If they would give you any problems about it, then tell them you want to file a claim for your broken merchandise, and spend that money on anything in the store.

Product Replacement Plan (PRP)
Don't get it fixed. Get it replaced. This plan ensures a full replacement of covered products. Features include:

  • Easy fulfillment
  • Flexibility - we'll give you a Best Buy Gift Card to choose your own replacement
  • Nationwide redemption

If you purchased the item in store, you can file a PRP claim online. Call 1-888-539-6883 for all BestBuy.com purchases.
