Okay, so I knocked my xbox over while playing COD4. I shut the system off, then opened the disc drive to find a large ring around the playing side of the disc. Surprisingly, the game still plays, just kicks me out to the game lobby after every match. I do have a hard drive. Is there any possible way to save the game without buying a new one? Such as installing it, or is it too late? I was thinking possibly theres a different space on the disc that's used to install to the hard drive, not affecting the installed game.

Might have to go n' buy a new one. My Halo 3 disc has a couple of these "rings" you mentioned, which is one big scratch. As a result, I get kicked out of the lobby when searching for a new game often, I can't go to Crow's Nest, and worst of all I can't install. Had to get a new one.

Well it couldn't hurt to try and install the game with your disc. If it doesn't work, then delete. You could try and borrow a friends disc and then install the game and play with your disc and you should be alright.

if if you have the money, buy a used copy that works, install to ur hdd, and bring it back. if they ask why then just say your friend already got one for his bday. just remember to keep ur scratched disc so the xbox will have notification that you really have the game disc. thats what i do, lol.

or better yet just avoid the whole stealing thing. rent it, copy to hdd, return it.. youve done nothing wrong there. but with my story you dont lose any money. it nets to no money gained nor lost.

It's a plan if you have the space. Alot of us still use the 20gb hard drive which can only really hold 1 retail game at a time.

Full games from the disc? Or XBLA games? Nearly all my games are 6.8gb each, meaning if I installed 2 that would take 13.6gb which is basically all my space gone, but I also have DLC which takes about 800mb so I can have enough space for one 6.8gb game and one roughly 6gb and then no more space for anything else...

i havent read other comments but the first (which was yours) but you can get a friend, who has a fully working cod 4 disc, to install it onto your xbox then you can just use your disc (it doesnt read the disc just recognises its there (it plays off the installed version)) and you should be fine.

3 Full no DLC. Music is all on the computer next to me haha... I don't know it's still kind of pointless to burn discs to the HDD unless you want revive the disc that has been scratched.

I tried installing with my disc, and it didn't work. So i borrowed a friend's, copied it to my HDD, and now I play with the scratched disc. It seems to work fine.
