Hey guys,

I went on Halo 3 for a quick game yestarday, Social skirmish (which i used to play day in day out) had a whopping 59 people online..

I didn't find enough people in Skirmish to form a game, so i searched for a social slayer game (2500 online) and 6 out of the 8 people were generals with thousands of EXP, obviously not wanting to leave their hard work and hundreds of gameplay hours to rest

All together , there were just over 5,000 people online. It breaks my heart to see what i can call by far my most played game in such a deserted state. It's a far better game than Reach and CrapOps.

But why exactly has it been deserted so quickly? I mean, 10 or so months ago, there were tens of thousands online, maybe even hundreds of thousands. And that was in CoD MW2's prime, so it can't be because CoD has taken the fanbase, because many loyal fans continued to play Halo way after CoD's big launches.

Seriously, why has it been left?

PS.. I know it's an overasked question, but has there been ANY news regarding a 'Halo 4' game? I've heard rumours recently about 343 making a Halo 3 sequel with the Chief and Cortana after they've released the Halo CE remake.

Perhaps it was just timing, last time I played online, whatever mode I played on was full.

Most people have obviously moved onto Reach and Call of Duty. Thats a sad fact that games end up being forgotten like this.

Halo 2 and 3 were the best online game experiences I've ever had. I've played CoD and still doesnt compare to the countless hours my friends and I would spend playing both Halo games. To me, it was one of those games where your buddies can grab some drinks and snacks and pull all nighters during the summer time. I'm currently playing Reach and it doesnt have that touch that previous Halo games did. I hope 343i can bring back that magic for the next Halo game, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Reach doesn't have the same appeal to me that H3 had. Idk what the difference is, I just don't have much fun playing Reach.

I'm not surprised with all of the new great shooters out now. It is still a little sad to see the game dwindle down as I have such fond memories of the multiplayer.

Agreed. I played so much of Halo 3. Never got tierd of it for years. Then CoD took over, reach came out and so on. I just don't have as much fun playing those games as much as I liked Halo 3. Meh. :( RIP Halo.

This happens to every game. It will happen to Reach and Black Ops and whatever comes out next year and the year after that. It's an inevitability... It's the cirrrrrrrcle of liiiiiiiiife...

you say that about halo 3. I think i was more concerned about how many people were flocking to halo 3 and didnt go back to 2. I admit that alot did go back, me being one of them. I think the CE AND 2 franchise were more popular and i think why theres some hints that bungie might be going backwards instead of fowards making an HD remake of Halo CE. On your quesiton, people do get tired of repetetive games fast. Halos and cods probably have the longest survival rate though.

Quick note - love, love, love your avatar of Hayley Williams :P But it isn't really surprising that Halo 3 is dying. Sure, it was/is one of the most biggest games on the Xbox 360, but as already stated, it is getting on and newer games come out. Call of Duty has grown so popular in the last 2 years. For some reason though, I have noticed that this mainly seems to happen with console video games, and not so much the PC ones. For example, whenever I pull out my copies of CoD1 and United Offensive on the PC, I can find many games very easily. It is always sad to see a community die though. Although, I was never really that much of a fan of Halo. Sure, I like it, but to me it's nothing special, but that is just my opinion of course :). You could always try and gather some people over the Internet to play with daily at the same times every die or something, just to make it feel as though the game is still more alive than it is :).

Reach sucked away a bunch of the players. not unusual for the masses to gravitate towards thew new one in the series.

that said, last time I played (a week or two ago) there were still plenty of people. we played for a good chunk of the night, and the game/lobbies never skipped a beat (i.e. no horrible lag, no glitchers, nice full lobbies regardless of game mode).

I miss Halo 2, no other shooter has ever came close to the fun I had on that game, back when xbox live had a real sense of community rather than what it is today.
