Rockstar, King of Gaming?

Wow, let me just say how impressed I am with Rockstars efforts in this generation of games. I never really liked those GTA or GTA esque games before this generation saw the likes of Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire and Grand Theft Auto IV. To start off, the open-worldness and realistic features that these games have showcased are something to behold, the believe-ability in these games is incredible. From large scale shootouts to the animation on the brilliantly designed characters faces, the feel is just superb. I might be coming off as a Rockstar fan-boy but wow, it's something that has really blown me away. The games are a must-play for anyone in for an epic story with brilliant gaming mechanics.

Hell even their Table Tennis game was brilliant!

So, the question is: Rockstar, the king of gaming? (this gen at least)

As much as I like Rockstar, I would have to give the title to Valve.

Maybe if Rockstar excelled at genres other than open world action adventure titles then maybe they'd be in the running. I'd say Nintendo and Valve have them beat easy.

edit: and for the last time Rockstar North (the team that makes GTA) did not make LA Noire, Team Bondi made it and Rockstar sold it.

I dont really like there games

I did not like Red Dead Redemption and hated certain aspects of GTA IV. Also I did not like the ending of LA Noire but I do absolutly love everything else about the game.

Valve and Bioware are my favorite developers. Rockstar makes quality games but they are not the Kings of Gaming.

EA, Ubisoft, Bioware and Activision-Blizzard are winning as of right now. I guess you could add Bethesda, but they have published bad games recently.

Yeah I suppose I should mention Bioware and Ubisoft, they are prime developers of open world fun-fests. But just recently having played the 3 different variety's of Rockstars open world games really blew me away.

P.S I really really enjoyed the Assassins Creed series and KOTOR

Can't believe that people are actually bashing R*. Can anyone name a game with a SP campaign that you could get more hours out of than San Andreas? Ok maybe some RPGs sure, but for the most part R* produces games that are long lasting and high quality, that can't be said about many games in the industry. Also I can't believe that Bully hasn't gotten more mention in this thread, an absolutely amazing game. I don't think that many games have the respect of and high average scores received as R*. Their games are polished, and their DLC is worth it. They are definitely in my top 5, maybe even top 3 gaming companies of all time. I'm in my mid-20's and have been gaming for a long time.

No love for Bethesda? Bethesda Softworks is my favorite developer. Rockstar are good and Valve are great i'd say.

My personal opinion goes to Blizzard, but Rockstar is close to the top of my list as well. I agree. Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption were both excellent games. I haven't played LA Noire yet, but Rockstar knows a good game, and they seem like a gaming company who cares about making good games.

I love Rockstar games and I wouldn't even say they are the King of Gaming. There are too many GREAT developers out there right now, and I don't think any of them are wearing the crown of "King." Ubisoft, Bethesda, Blizzard, Valve... People may have a favorite but that doesn't make them king just because you like them the most. MY favorite developer is Double Fine, but I would never say they're the King.

That's your argument? That's pretty much how all games are, you do the same things over and over but the environments and characters change within the game. Have you ever played any Super Mario, FPS campaign, Splinter Cell, etc game? You do the same things over and over in all those games, yet all are excellent. Games made by R* are just like that and they have an engaging story as well that leaves you wanting more at the end. I'm not telling you what do like or find fun, but your argument doesn't make sense.

I enjoy Rockstar games, but they're definitely not the "Kings of Gaming"... their games have a flaw that I can't overlook.; shooting sequences are every common in their games, and it's not that fun. The cover system is clunky and the A.I. is usually pretty bad. This needs to be fixed.
