I'd really like to know which do you prefer and why.
Personally I prefer FPS but I'm getting more and more into RPGs.

I like them both, but for different reasons.
FPS: I like them for the action elements, the quick thinking skills, and general twitchiness. They are also better for that visceral-ness of just blowing stuff up. I like to play these after a hard day at work as a way to divert my stress-energy into something better than the alternatives. They are also more fun for playing with friends.
RPG: I like these as they are generally more relaxing. I play them if my only play-time is right before bed. You don't have to be on edge and primed to react quickly as the enemy encounters are either random, or you initiate them.
I try to keep a good mix on hand, but the FPS games are over way quicker than RPG games. I've played through all the HALO games and Gears of War, and I am still playing Oblivion.
These are my two favorite genres, by far, so it's hard to pick a favorite.
I love the fast-paced action of shooters. For a long time now, shooters have proven that they can have memorable stories and characters. Chief, Gordon Freeman, and Marcus are some of the most memorable characters in gaming. They are to me, anyway; your mileage may vary. I also love team-based mutliplayer shooters, working with a group of people to achieve an objective. (Kinda like my real-life job.)
I really get into my RPGs. A good RPG isn't just a game; it's an interactive work of fiction. I like being able to be someone else in a fantastic environment, where I'm involved in an epic plot, and my decisions carry great imporatance to the world around me.
My favorite game of all time is a combination of these two: Deus Ex.
Both. Most of my favorites are hybrids of the two genres.
RPGs are ultimately more fun, but there's some qualifications there. Mainly, I just don't care for JRPGs anymore. My main interest in rpgs is more along the lines of what I loved about the pen and paper RPGs. You created the character and were able to make choices that shaped what your character was about and how they behaved. Which is why I'm perfectly fine with an open world like in Morrowind with barely any hint of a story to get in the way.
JRPGs tend to be too rigid and too linear for my taste. With the characters, motives, actions during cutscenes all set, it's hardly role-playing in the sense of the word someone would use when generating their own character. Ideally, there should be at least some choice there. I don't mind a well written character, and some actions that the player has no control over, as long as there's some effect of player choice. Deus Ex, KOTOR, and Mass Effect are good examples of that.
Shooters are generally a safer bet. If it's bad, it's usually still at least somewhat tolerable. Though, I don't like the tendency to create small set pieces where you fight over a small courtyard while enemies constantly spawn before moving onto the next area and repeating.
i have more FPS´s, i enjoy more the kind
but ive found more adictives RPGs, no the classic kind, Action RPG FTW!, such diablo 2 OR mass effect or oblivion (i know they diferent also)
bioshock is 4 whom likes these games the BEST thing ever! lol, kinda hybrid
