Im starting to get tired of RPG's all based around fantasy and magic..

For example, I was playing Lost Odyssey and one of the creatures of the stupid battle I was fighting

was a Book!?!?!

I was fighting some type of magical enhanced Book... absoluty ridiculous.

I hate Harry Potter and his little magic wizz nerds,

Its a shame they dont make more RPG's without all the fantasy just to change things up abit..

Im gunna have to play through Mass Effect for teh 4th time, that is about as sensible as a RPG as you can get.

Bring back knights of the round tables, with caslte's and jousting and swordfights and evil kings that raise taxes, no more stupid harry potter guys that cast there nerdy little spells.. and trolls and goblins and this nonsense something fresh and more realistic would be great. I'll check out Fallout 3.

Oh I get it

One completely made up imaginary being is "more real" then another made up imaginary character

Again, the kettle is being called black

So you're saying that an unexplained power from no where is easier to believe than a being that isnt human?

He's having an easier time with aliens because as we know aliens are so commonplace. Just the other day I was looking for Isotoner gloves for a gift but they all had 2 fingers. When I asked the sales lady about this she said "oh I'm sorry we got our shipments mixed up with our Neptune location, we get more next Tuesday"

A talking book is no different then a walking talking alien lizard.

Gees. What a fun thread this is. Yeah Fallout 3 and Mass Effect were my 2 suggestions. Another would be, and people would argue, GTA IV. It's obviously a shooter and a racing game. But with the missions and quest lines and choice options, it's also an RPG. If you haven't given it a go, from an RPG perspective it is a brilliant game too.

I'd try Mass Effect. Though as others have noted, the differences are superficial. You could plop Mass Effect into a D&D setting with minimal changes.

That's what I came in here to say! Looks like I'm late to the party. Yeah Fallout 3 is about as manly as an RPG can get. No floating books to be found anywhere.

That's not a rebuttal. I'd call that an appeal-to-motive fallacy, but I think that's giving it too much credit. You're having a hard time making a simple point, so I'll help you out here:

Aliens in science fiction are beings that could conceivably exist, given our present understanding of science. A magical book is just that: Magical. It explicitly defies the laws of physics, and therefore cannot exist in our world. (Unless you want to pull that "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" line, which is just a cop-out.) One pull of science fiction over fantasy (for some people, anyway) is the enhanced realism that comes from the fact that it could happen. Mass Effect attempts to incorporate Earth's real history, suggesting that the events in its fiction could occur in our future. The Lord of the Rings, for example, does not. In that sense, an alien is more realistic than a magical book.

Too Human. Replay value is through the roof. No magic but it has rifles and swords. Advance in melee damage and you get a combo meter which is this games equivalent to manna.

I'm talking about game worlds. I haven't played many games with talking books as enemies, because developers aren't that stupid, but aliens are a normal thing in games

Great logic there. To defend something, which he wasn't even doing, you must be in love with the thing you are defending. That's why so many defense attourneys have affairs with their clients. Fact.
