http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Xbox-one-Bundle-No-Kinect-Price-Unit,23669.html

From the article:

"When Microsoft announced the Xbox One, gamers were quick to point out what they didn't like about the device. One of the biggest concerns for Xbox fans was the price. Microsoft justifies it by pointing out the fact that buyers will also get the Kinect motion sensor when they buy the Xbox One. But what if you wanted to buy the Xbox One without Kinect?

You just might be able to. Unfortunately, it likely won't be for a while. According to Inside Gaming, those who are willing to wait will have the option of buying the Xbox One without Kinect. The website quotes a source familiar with the matter that says Microsoft will release a bundle without Kinect in the summer of next year. What's more, a second budget bundle will feature a second hard drive and actually under cut the price of Sony's PS4.

In case you need reminding, the PS4 will cost $399 when it launches later this year. The Xbox One, with Kinect, will cost $499. Inside Gaming hasn't said how much the 2014 Kinect-less bundle will cost, though the mention of another budget bundle undercutting the price of the PS4 would imply that the price of the Kinect-less bundle will still be over $399."

Don't know if this is really going to happen, but wouldn't that completely undermine their arguments about how important and deeply integrated Kinect is into the system? It would drive sales though.

This would be a great idea, if true.

I have friends on the fence due to the high asking price that would perhaps change their mind if that price was taken down and especially if Kinect was an option. I have friends, including myself (I have it reserved as we speak), that would love an Xbox One without a Kinect force bundled.

if true (probably is not), this is even more evidence that MS has no spine... and absolutely no vision for their console. if they release an XB1 without kinect, it will be more damaging for their marketing and reputation than if they just stick with it. also, it will make the kinect an after thought, because at that point, devs will no longer be able to count on all XB1 owners having a kinect. if they just keep the kinect, eventually those on the fence WILL buy an XB1. an exclusive will come along that they just have to play, and they will buy it. only the hardcore "if it has kinect, i wont buy" crowd will not eventually break down and get one, and honestly who cares if they dont? they arent the target audience for the XB1 anyhow.

It's gonna happen eventually. The thing is, how would that work with games that still require Kinect integration? I'm not even sure if the console can be powered without Kinect.

Why would giving the consumer a choice mean the MS has no spine? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't giving people more options increase sales?

First the Xbox One is requried for things in the OS. Using your voice to change TV channels, bringing up the TV guide, turning on the Xbox One, etc. It makes no sense to make one now and less than a year latter drop support for it.

Well, first off, I think that the rumor would NEVER happen, for this reason:

First the Xbox One is requried for things in the OS. Using your voice to change TV channels, bringing up the TV guide, turning on the Xbox One, etc. It makes no sense to make one now and less than a year latter drop support for it.

xhawk27

AND, game developers are already making gamesfor Xbox One, with the thought that the Kinect is standard and are integrating it because it's required.

But, still, here's what I think.

For those of you who don't like the Kinect being mandatory, would you really say that it's preventing you from buying the console eventually? After all, most console sales come in after the initial release and price drop.

And although I haven't heard it on this board, MS has to realize that, well, haters gonna hate. People who don't prefer xbox now will (most likely) never prefer it.

Getting rid of DRM and the used-game policy was a smart move. It was a response to consumers. Getting rid of Kinect? Well, that's selling out to fans of other consoles. They won't switch. It's the way it is.

Plus, paying more really doesn't matter after launch, because it goes without saying that prices will drop after release.

Keep Kinect, MS.

So you think it's going to spy on you? Did the Xbox 360 Kinect Spy on you? No because it's not sending data and neither will Kinect 2.0. You can turn off Kinect and pause it. If you are buying a PS4 are you ever going to buy the camera for it. That could spy on you too.

Kinect has never been a defining feature of Xbox.

My 360 never used Kinect.

They're not alienating fans of other consoles, they're alienating their own fans.

Nobody is saying "get rid of Kinect" I think it's a cool option.

Keyword "option."

Now after years of trying to encourage people to use Kinect, they decide to ram it down their fanbase's throat. "You will have Kinect or you won't have our system."

Really? That's how you treat your Xbox360 fans? That's how you treat your original Xbox fans? By shoving optional peripherals down our throats?

Mark this : your customers aren't going to other consoles willingly, you're PUSHING them to other consoles.

When I run out and get a PS4, it's not because I'm a fan of Uncharted.

It's because Xbox One decides to push me out.

Maybe it's because you guys are thinking of it as a peripheral. It's not. If there was no kinect 1.0 and MS had released Xbox One as is, I don't think there would have been so much hate against it.

I believe Kinect has a place, but for it to find that place it has to be taken seriously by the developers.  The best ways to do that are to ensure that the tech behind it is there and that every Xbox One owner has one.  Microsoft has apparently accomplished the tech part and they are including it with every Xbox One.  Two very important goals met.

I know that many have a problem with paying $500 because Kinect is included, and while I can understand not wanting to pay for something you don't want, the only thing you can really do is not buy one or wait for a price drop.

I also know that, besides the price increase, not everyone wants one.  All I can say to that is, if you do opt to buy Xbox One and have no interest in Kinect, turn it off as much as you can in the options menu, cover it up and turn it around.

Microsoft says Kinect is integral to the Xbox One experience, and they should stick to their guns and keep it in the box and prove why it's an integral piece of gaming and entertainment on Xbox One.  I have my reservations on just how much it can actually add for me personally, but I will give them the chance to prove it to me.

The problem is a lot of people, at least on these forums, feel this is some kind of personal assault on themselves and aren't nearly as receptive to the possibilities as you and others like myself are.

Hey friend:P....I think I speak for most people who have an issue with Kinect, we don't take it personal it's just a matter of boxing us in the corner and not giving us options!! As a consumer the companies job is to provide you with a service that meets YOUR needs....not the other way around!! The problem is(not saying you)that the average consumer has been brainwashed of independent thought and is trained to accept what is popular to the masses and not what is right for their personal needs.

The gamers spoke and let MS know that there are still a few of us who can think independently and that they are here to serve us!:)

Well it´s kind of a contradiction, since what the masses want is NO Kinect. So one could say that the masses were brainwashed to don´t want Kinect?

Well, to say who's really brainwashed is open to debate since there's no legit way to verify it, but the main point I was trying to make is that we should be given a choice....and not be told by MS or any other company what to do with our money.

How would you feel if you walk into McDonald's and you tell them you want a cheese burger and they say no, all they have is plain! You'd take your business elsewhere right? I'm not saying that the Kinect is bad, it's just something that I personally don't have any use for and that's my choice.....can't make it anymore simpler then that dude!:)

Well I understand the people who don't want to pay more for something they don't think they'll use. I get that. It's the people that think MS will be watching them with a bowl of popcorn and laughing that I'm talking about. Also, people fail to see how MS designed Kinect to be integral. It's like removing a part of the console itself. At least, that's the idea. Idk lol. I really don't care who gets the Xbox One at launch or if people wait, but this group think that "the man" is spying on us using the Kinect is stupid and should be rebutted.

The whole spycam thing was one of the issue with me at first but then I just got over it!!! But the main thing is that the Kinect is not something that will be useful to me personaly.:)

Well, first off, I think that the rumor would NEVER happen, for this reason:

[QUOTE="xhawk27"]

First the Xbox One is requried for things in the OS. Using your voice to change TV channels, bringing up the TV guide, turning on the Xbox One, etc. It makes no sense to make one now and less than a year latter drop support for it.

nickr2d2

There's no reason the OS functions couldn't be done with a controller as they are now.

I preferred the 360 over the PS3 by a large margin this gen but I do not want to deal with Kinect, ever.

This would not be good at all because then you basically split the market and then developers will think of kinect as an afterthought knowing that not everyone will have it.

I do plan on getting both systems: While PS4 is what I'm gaining to get. With Microsoft having removed a lot of the policies that pissed off not just the new gaming community, but also the veterans of the gaming arena. With this "possible" new information, it's making me happy. Never bought kinect for my 360, don't want it for Xbox one, with this new bundle, I'll never buy one for Xbox One.

no kinect? just buy a ps4. that would be a bad move for microsoft and developers down the road. that would be the begining of the end of kinect right at the beginning of xbox's life cycle. The whole point is for everyone to have the exact same setup.

The price doesn't bother me. Kinect is what does. Or the fact its required to operate the XBONE console...I would buy a new one on day one, IF it shipped without Kinect.

If X1 comes without kinect, I'll shut my mouth & consider one.

Both consoles will be 90% the same thing... so It will just boil down to which games are on offer.

But If I saw an X1 in future without kinect on a good deal... I wouldn't be fussed to pick it up instead.

I just don't understand some of the comments I continue to read. I feel like you can either:

1. Turn it off. (Which I have read on multiple sites will be an option).

or

2. Put something in front of the camera like a picture or action figure so it can't "spy on you".

That's at least what I plan to do.
