Then they would have to raise the price to match that of the PS3, thus losing more business. Also not a smart move since, IMO, BR blew HD-DVD away.
If it was built in the games wouldnt change and still would be DVD9's. Unless MS for some reason wants everyone to happily send in their console for free.
And to the other question, no I am not mad at them making upgraded 360's considering I got what I needed with a Core and HD drive. I dont need HDMI and a lot dont. Besides electronics seem to always have upgrades.
Here is how the rumor was started,
Conversation:
Me: Hey, do you have the Premiums with the hdmi?
GT: Those are called the elites. They are right there.
ME: No, I mean the premiums, *points*, with hdmi.
GT: They're not making them yet till like later.
ME: They're making them now, I've seen pictures of them online.
GT: No, they're not. You got it wrong.
ME: Nowai.
GT: Let me explain, they're making the elites into premiums, and dropping the core.
ME: WHAA..
GT: Microsoft told me they're making the elites into premiums, and later they're releasing xbox ultimate.
ME: WTF is that?
GT: It's the xbox 360 that has a hdmi, and a HD-DVD drive to compete with blu-ray.
ME: Are they putting HD-DVD games on it?
GT: Yeah, Microsoft is competing against Blu-ray.
ME: Orly, what about the 9 million people that bought 360 last year. They're f****! lol
GT: No, they're fine.
ME: The 360 can't play HD-DVD right now.
GT: Well it could, sort of. The xbox ultimate and the HD-DVD drive just makes it more HD.
ME: ...
ME: ...
ME: ...
ME: Uh, so who do you think will win the war.
GT: Blu-ray or HD-DVD, too early to tell.
ME: Not that one. The other one.
GT: Uh, 360 man.
ME: The Wii is kicking it's ass right now.
GT: Well, you see, the wii is in another market by itself on the side.
ME: It's new-gen.
GT: Yeah.
ME: It's nice talking to you. I tell my forum about xbox ultimate.
GT: Peace out.
if this happens, then, according to microsoft's own words (they said this soooo long ago) XBox 360 games won't come on HD-DVD, and will be DVD only. So the gamers won't have anything to be mad about. honestly, i'm not waiting a year for a rumour that might not be true... hell, im not even waiting for 65nm chips! imma buy my 360 next week! HDMI or not! (btw: i don't tihnk they're selling HDMI pros in canada yet)indian_boy90I remember MS saying that when the HD dvd add on came out. The 360 will NEVER play HD-Dvd games, only movies.

If I understand this correctly this whole rumor is based on a conversation some guy had with a gamestop employ....
If you ask me there are three possible reasons for this "rumor"
1. The gamestop employ is simply an a**hole and dosn't know what he is talking about
2. The gamestop employ was bored and decided to f*** with the next guy to walk in the store
3 The gamestop employ is actually telling the truth.......yeah right:?....
So far I think it's safe to say that this rumor has absolutely 0% credibility

It would be great for games, I dont like playing halo 3 on 2 discs, but I'll stick with Blu ray's for my movies.vampirehunterd2Great, you dont have to play halo3 on 2 disks, its on one, and why would Microsoft do this when they are gonna come back about 3 years from now and bring out a new system, and they will, it will be 2010, mark my words, and Sony will not have to put out a new system until 2012.
It's not going to happen any time soon and here's why. The 360 SD drive is 12x. HD DVD drives may play SD DVDs but there isn't one yet that can play them at 12x. Unless you want longer load times and slower data reading, keep hoping for a built in HD DVD drive.

What about the pictures of the Halo cases coming with two discs labeled game disc one and game disc two. It's two discs lets all face it.

Bungie has already shot down that photo as false, the second disk is bonus features.Wii is equivalent to a Xbox if not weaker. HD DVD built in 360 is retarded and stupid. Will not happen, until the next gen. Blu-ray has forced itself into the market by introducing many free offers that would benefit producers and other people who would probably need it for selling movies and things. HD DVD is still a winner in my heart, it was good, and still is good. Sadly HD DVD is just a danm DVD it doesnt make anything more HD. Other than storing more information so you can have more space to work on games. Same goes for blu-ray.Here is how the rumor was started,

First the source of that rumor is a GameStop employee! LOL - ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!
But...
No not tired of it - SONY is doing the exact same thing (adding features next year like an HD tuner to the PS3). Welcome to the world of technology - it will not stop changing even within a single generation.
Plus a positive of this is that I was debating about upgrading JUST for the 65nm procs - and decided "no probably not" - but if they throw in HD-DVD then sure it will be a perfect time to buy. Better drive and Better Procs - sure MS can have a few more of my dollars for that. :)

Bungie.net confirmed that the 2nd DVD was supposed to be a bonus feature disc... and debunked the rumor that Halo3 was on multiple discs...
who cares if a game is on two disks.sonic0491
I agree with that totally - so you play 10 or 20 hours worth of a game and then change discs to play another 10 or 20 hours worth - so what.
It's not like you'd be swapping discs in and out constantly - it would just be to progress the game.
No biggie in my opinion - but I still think this is a cool upgrade if it happens.
:)

Halo 3 has 2 discs? I thought it was 1.
