The manual recommends not to plug the console into a power strip or an extension cord. Also, the person on the xbox support line also recommended to plug it directly into the wall. However, is this really true? If so, why? I'm wondering if it is in fact safer to plug my slim, (along with the rest of the components in my setup), into my surge protector after all? If I do plug it in a multi plug protector with everything else, will it underpower my unit, or harm it in any way? Which is the safest option? Does it matter if it's the slim or the phat?

I run all my consoles through a surge protector board and have never had any problems. I think it is riskier to not do it.

lol. rule one. RUN all electronics through a surge protector. AND no not every power strip is a surge protector. mostly common is white color strips are not and black ones are. IF you don't You run the risk of your house getting overloaded with power and it will run through your walls. IF this happens anything is not hooked up to a surge protector will be fried. I have never happen to me but i have had 2 friends and one my mother friends computers t.vs ect fried. how about you call that support number and ask why?

My guess is liability. MS have no control over whether you buy a highly reputable or a cheap ass piece of sh!t surge protector. By recommending that you not use one makes it harder for them to be blamed if something does go wrong.

some more premium brands of power boards even offer data and $$$ insurance.

ironically enough, i have two ports on one wall socket and one is actually dangerous to use. it sparks or pops when u switch it on or off( blue flash behind the plastic).

You aren't supposed to because it isn't necessary, the power supply on the 360 has a built in surge protector.
