I think I can see where this thread is heading...
but yeah GTAIV trumps Saints Row in every way possible

No, not in everyway.
You should get GTA IV but Saints Row 2 IMO will be better than GTA.
GTA - Realism, Gritty, Graphics and a decent storyline and good online.
Saints Row - Chaos, Customizasation, Robberies and memorable characters.
All in all I'd Have to say GTA IV is better than Saints Row, But i dont think GTA IV will be better than saints Row 2 (Which comes out October) even though i highly doubt SR 2 will outsell GTA because of the people who refuse to say its not that good a game simply because of the title "GTA"
I am a long time fan of GTA but when Saints Row came out before GAT IV I actually enjoyed it much more than GTA. GTA IV decided to take the path with a gritty story, realistic shooting and a real city. Saints Row on the other hand is just plain fun, And I think that possibly Saints Row 2 actually has a chance of kicking GTA IV ass. I don't think it'll get a 10 but a 9 or 9,5 at least.
Here's a video which illustrates perfectly my opinion.

Perfect. Well said. Even after GTA4 came out, Saints Row is still a more than fun contender.
GTA severely lacks any customization which really hurts Replay/Online. I would have given up just about anything in GTA4 to get Mansions/Garages Gun/Clothes/Car customizations.
In many ways Saints Row>GTA and vice versa. All in all, GTA4 is more realism based, and SR is aimed more towards the days of San Andreas when everything was so over the top. To be honest, I miss SA/VC.
I think SR2 will be the better game than GTA, but it wont get near the amount of acceptance/sales GTA did.
