I've been very paranoid about my 360 seeing everyine's 360 break. I want to keep my 360 and keep it forever(like I do for every other one of my systems), its just that I'm afraid of my 360 breaking. It has had ring of death once but it worked after i restarted my 360. My 360 also has occsional(once in like 2months) freeze. Its only forze on 2 games: Oblivion and GRAW. Oblivion, I guess, has so much data its loading that sometimes it might freeze. With GRAW, I was playing hard with cheats and everything was going crazy. Then all of a sudden it froze. My 360 is also one of the launch systems(manufactured in November '05). So does anyone have any tips for me on either calming myself or keeping my 360 safe?

Just don't play it for long periods of time where it has a chance to melt. Take 20 minute breaks like every hour if you truly care.

Yeah, I know how you feel. I've had no problems with mine since I got it about 5 months ago, and just today I got the worst type of ring of death - the one where 3 reds light flash... I eventually called up microsoft and the person on the line obviously had no idea what was wrong so she said I should send it in for repairs - no 360 for 15 days but I might get sent a brand new one with a quieter disc drive if I'm lucky! It's just one of those things I guess...

Actualy I started to have problams because of the intercooler. The intercooler ruins your 360. It steals power your 360 needs to start up. Also, when you plug in your intercooler it voids(cancels) your warranty with Microsoft.

I play my 360 for 2 hours minimum per day, every day. There's been times when I've played 3 hours of GoW, then me and a friend have played hockey for 5 hours straight, then 2 hours of GoW (10-12 hours straight). And I've left it on over night a couple times to download demos, AFTER playing for 5 hours straight before going to bed (12-14 hours). And now that I've got Tiger Woods 07, my Dad plays a lot more than he used to. So during the day when I'm sleeping or at work, he's playing golf. Then I get home and I fire up my games.

It's overheated twice, had about 5 "disc errors" which went away after wiping the disc down, and has NEVER had a hardware failure of any kind.

I'm not really paranoid because I bought a 2 year warranty + accidental damage at Circuit City. Anything that goes wrong with the 360, I just send it back to them for them to try to repair or get a brand new one.

if we didn't care the first time, what makes you think we would care the next TWO times? if you're scared of your product breaking, buy the extended warranty on it...

No, it is not alright and this is the very same thing that has also given me the "360 paranoia", as I am still on my first one as well. I absolutely LOVE my 360 and pray that it last for the long haul, as the 360 has and WILL have the games that appeal to me the most. But even after over a year since it has launched, it seems that every time you turn around, all you hear is, "I am on my 3rd one", "I am on my 4th 360", "I am on #5", ect.

It is just beyond ridiculous and blatantly obvious that there is STILL an as yet unaddresed design flaw on what is an otherwise GREAT system.....and what a shame. Yes, the 360 has a great library and an absolutely remarkable one on the horizon, but what good are great games on a PART TIME $400.00 console that you have to send in every 6 or so months for repair? It is absurd beyond reason and a crying shame for those that have to KEEP doing this over and over, just in order to be able to enjoy the 360 that they paid $400.00 every now and then. It's a RIP-OFF.

I have vowed that if mine lemons out on me that I will of course send it in for repairs ONE TIME ONLY, but if number 2 goes sour on me, then I will just say screw the 360 altogether and just play my old Xbox (which still works superbly) for old exclusives, while I enjoy "next-gen" on the PS3 instead. You just do not hear about PS3's breaking down. $600.00 might end up actually being a wiser LONG TERM investment after all.

$400.00 for a supposed "next-gen" console that is only part time is not my idea of a good entertainment investment, although like I said, I LOVE the 360 and it is my prefered console, and again, I truly hope that mine is good for the long haul. But just looking at it realistically and logically, I think that anyone who is still on 360 # 1 should at least be wary and cautious about all of these continual  faulty units, and keep in mind that the possibility is there for their 360 to lemon out as well.

This is not being pessimistic either, it is just choosing not to be blind to a situation that clearly exists, and also realizing that you might have a lemon 360 just waiting to go "ker-plunk" at any moment as well. It is a great system minus the apparent and obvious design flaw, and I just hope that Microsoft gets this problem addressed once and for all so that we all may enjoy all of the great games that is and will be on the 360 with less worry about having to send the darn thing in every couple of months because it is such a piece of sh!t.....but yes, it does have great games, lol.....It would just be nice to be able to enjoy them on a FULL-time system without worry of the thing screwing up if you just so happen look at it wrong.

Just a question, If you play 360 a minimum of 2-4 hours a day with no breaks, would it damage the console? Well, it did it to mine yesterday. And the lifespan was 1 1/2 months.

True, but 360's were breaking down by the boatload since DAY ONE. PS3 has been out three months now and you rarely hear of one breaking down. That was my only point, I never said it was flawless, but the success rate as it stands now is rather impressive. Time will tell though I imagine.

I have had my 360 since april of last year, and its still running pretty good. I take really good care of it, but I have played it for long periods of time. I sometimes have my buddies come over, and we'll play madden, mlb, nba live, Geow, and GRAW in one sitting, and never has it froze. I don't consistently play for long periods because I have to take breaks for myself. Anyways I always leave it horizontal and I clean the dust off of it almost every other day. I also use the dust spray, but in small amounts. I also use a really good laptop cooler, which has helped with the overheating. As long as you take extra care of your xbox you should have no problems.

Well, I thought the same thing, if I took care of it that nothing would happen.  But, guess what...  A little over a week ago I got the red lights of doom.  So, it's not always something you can protect against, but it's worth trying.

Also Theres a one year warrenty, I even extended my warrenty to two years ,and it didn't even cost that much. Thats an extra insurance. I understand you won't be able to play for a couple weeks, but you know that if it breaks it won't be the end of the road for your 360. We should just try to relax and have fun playing. I really feel for the guys who lost their 360s to the red lights and disc errors, but what can you do? Just live life and play. I know its easier said than done, but you only live once. Keep your spirits up guys.

Even if it does break, M$ is very good about repairing it pretty quickly.

To be honest, this is the exact reason I've avoided getting a 360. I absolutely love a lot of the games for it and think it's a blast to play, plus xbl is fantastic. The only time I ever play it is at my cousin’s and at a couple of my friends houses. Out of the three people that I know that have one two have had problems with it. One had the 3 rings of death and the other has problems reading some games and makes several loud noises on occasion (almost like grinding noises). That's a 66% defect rate. I know that isn't a fair assumption, and I know that the defect rate isn't nearly that high, but it kind of deters a person from buying the system when 2/3 of the people they know who have one have had problems with it. For a multibillion dollar company, you’d think that M$ would have the technology to make a videogame console that is more durable and can last longer than a year or two.
