I am scared of getting a rrod thing with it. So please some one help me decide.
How to avoid rrod? is getting a 360 a test of luck?:(

The most recent models are better than the old ones, they are not as crappy as the first models and are
more reliable, anyway you got 3 years warranty, thats going to be more than enough I think for the xbox
to solve all those overheating problems, I guess anyway by them we are going to be welcoming the new xbox 720 lol

I don't know anyone personally that has got teh RROD. I play mine every other day, sometimes 30 minutes, sometimes 6 or 7 hours at a time. I have been doing this for 3 years and had 0 problems. The chances of getting it is 3-5%. It is really an overheating problem. If you put it in a well ventilated area, or even by the extra cooling fan (I did not do this) then I would think you would lower that percentage even more. There is just as high a percentage of getting a processor overheat problem with a computer...especially if you don't take necessary ventilation precautions.
Also, microsoft extended the warranty to 3 years to cover the RROD. That tells me two things. 1. They stand behind their product 2. The RROD can't be that big of an issue or they would lose their tail covering all the warranty claims.
By the time your 3 year warranty is up, a next gen console will be out anyway.
If you have the extra scratch, do yourself a favor and get the elite...I don't even download that much stuff and I know I could use the extra hard drive space.

3-5%? That's a huge lie you just made up; try 45% ish. No, the 3 year warranty was put in place to make consumers feel better about buying the 360 so they could get a market share, and they HAVE taken a HUMONGOUS hit with the reconditioning of 360s.
Almost everybody I know has had at least one RROD, excluding me. I vacuum my vents out once a week.
TC if you're so worried about the RROD then get a PS3, but Microsoft covers the RROD for 3 years so no worries.
well i have had my 360 for just over a year now and mine is woking fine apart from the disc tray which jams sometimes.
but no technical problems.id say get one beacuse imo it has the best titles (wii has a massive lack of good ones) and ps3 is to expensive(but their is a fair amount of good titles.)
overall i would pick the 360

That's not true either...The failure rate was around 16%
You can't call someone out for making up a figure and then make one up yourself...
I'm on my 4th... the first 3 all RROD'd does that mean I have a pending 75% failure rate? or a 300% failure rate? I think that 16% is vastly vastly skewed, I know plenty of people who have had multiple consoles bite it.

that doesnt mean anything I have had two 360's for 2.5 years now and never had any problems and I have 5 friends with 360's and they havent had any problems either so you see it balances out and my 360's are in entertainment centers and I never hoover their vents I just dust o around them once every six months when I do the house work.

the new 360's don't really get rrod. just stand it up and you'll be fine. trust me, buying a 360 will be the best decision you make this year.
If you get a new 360 60gb pro that was made in 2008(all of the ones in store as of now have 99% chance of being made in 2008), it will have the falcon, and you'll be fine if you don't play it too much and clean the dust on the outside of the fans regularly.
I believe that they are using the Jasper motherboards now that's what caused the price drop. TC buy a 360 you won't regret it and the new ones are worry free as long as you don't block the vents. Once the Valhalla motherboard comes out there will probably be another price break and they will be even more reliable. I wouldn't wait until the Valhalla mobo comes out though since it will probably be at least a year or more before it comes out.If you get a new 360 60gb pro that was made in 2008(all of the ones in store as of now have 99% chance of being made in 2008), it will have the falcon, and you'll be fine if you don't play it too much and clean the dust on the outside of the fans regularly.
